Conor McGregor has revealed the full extent of his ‘quite shocking’ injuries after his comeback fight against Max Holloway ended in disaster.

McGregor faced Holloway for the second time in his MMA career, taking to the octagon for UFC 329 on 11 July in Las Vegas.

Prior to the fight, the two men traded insults and almost came to blows at a press conference.

However, once the bout got underway things quickly went badly wrong for the 38-year-old Irishman.

The former UFC champ came out all guns blazing with a jumping switch kick aimed towards Holloway.

But the kick missed and McGregor landed awkwardly and appeared to be struggling to put weight on his right leg, sending him sprawling to the canvas.

His much-hyped comeback match lasted a little over a minute before it was brought to a sharp close and Holloway was declared the winner.

In the wake of his injury, McGregor revealed that he plans to recover and wants to fight again.

However, he’s now revealed his injuries and it seems like it could be a while before he’s able to fight again.

In a post on X, McGregor confirmed that he has injured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the meniscus in his right knee.

He wrote: “It was acl and meniscus. It is the same injury as the first Holloway fight, only this time the opposite leg. Quite shocking. I returned to competition within 9 months to fight Diego Brandao back then.

“With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods it is well within my realm to return by next summer. I am walking without a crutch. I done leg extension machine work the other day to no issue. So I can walk without aid, and activate my quad under resistance. All very positive. I am maximum discipline and have maintained it fully since the bout.”

McGregor went on to say that he wondered if he had been ‘saved from something worse’ by the injury.

“I believe so. I would have attended the after party as 'the man' and who knows then. I believe I was saved,” he added.

“Thank you God!

“On we go, no sad stories. Thank you for the support and well wishes everyone, your health is your wealth.”

McGregor’s update comes after the controversial fighter hit back against claims he had already been injured going into the fight.

Breaking his silence on social media after the defeat, he wrote: "My head gasket is gone. Destroyed.

"I had no injury / injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight.

"This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell."

UFC 329 was McGregor’s first fight in five years and is also his third consecutive loss.

During an interview ahead of his recent, short-lived return, McGregor hinted at the outside-the-ring controversies that have plagued his comeback, namely that he was found by a civil court in Ireland to have sexually assaulted Nikita Hand in 2024.

Hand told the court McGregor raped her in a Dublin hotel in 2018. In Ireland, there is no automatic anonymity for complainants in civil sexual assault trials, unlike in the UK.

McGregor has denied any wrongdoing.
