England's rock-solid midfield partnership could be in doubt against Norway with Declan Rice missing a second successive day of training.

The Premier League winner is understood to have missed a second day of practice due to a sickness bug, having already suffered with a neural issue affecting his hamstring and lower back.

His injury has now been exacerbated by illness, as England have taken measures to ensure that the bug doesn't spread in camp.

Defender Marc Guehi will also be assessed on Friday after suffering a slight hamstring injury after England's 3-2 win over Mexico in the last 16.

“I will approach it the same as every other game,” the Manchester City defender said.

“Of course, there’s these risks. If we win and get a yellow card I’d miss the next game, but I’m not focused on that.

“I’m focused on playing my game and doing what I need to do.

“(Me and the others have) not spoken about it.

“It’s not really a discussion that we needed to have, but we’ve all played on yellow cards before.”

Norway’s squad is facing illness concerns ahead of their World Cup quarter-final match against England tomorrow evening (11 July) at 10pm UK time.

Some players are reportedly experiencing coughing and rasping, likely due to the demanding travel schedule.

Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland told James Corden's Fox show: “I can confirm that it's true. We've had our issues.

“We're doing the best that we can and the team doctor is very busy at the moment.

“I don't have any clue. We have had some time off so maybe someone contracted anything during the time off. Hopefully everything goes well and we face England with a fully rested squad on Saturday.”

Manager Solbakken was also seen coughing at a press conference after Norway's 4-1 defeat to France in the group stages.

“We've really only had Jorgen who has had a fever,” Solbakken said. “But then there's been a bit of coughing and rasping evenly, scattered throughout.

“But there's air conditioning, flights, changing rooms and all that. We're over 50 people so it would be strange if one or the other didn't come.”

Haaland says England are ‘clear favourites’

O’Reilly will come up against his Man City teammate Erling Haaland on Saturday, who claims England are ‘clear favourites’ to win.

When asked about the striker’s comments, he said: “Yeah, mind games.

“But they’re a good team as well. They’ve showed that throughout the whole tournament.

“It’s not just certain players that we need to worry about.

“They’re good collectively, and it’s going to be a good game.”

He added: “Erling’s Erling. We all know what he’s like. He can score goals. He’s dangerous in the box, and he’s a real threat. But they need to get him the ball in first. A lot goes into it.

“I think keeping Erling quiet gives us a real chance to win the game.

“We know the threat he can cause – unbelievable striker, world class and he showed that throughout the tournament, scoring every game he’s played in.”
