Former world champion boxer drops internet troll who turned up at his gym

Former world champion Gavin Rees, 44, took less than 30 seconds to silence the troll

If you're going to give someone abuse on the internet, you really ought to be prepared to put your money where your mouth is - especially if the bloke that you're tormenting is a former world champion boxer.

Otherwise, you might end up getting dropped by the guy you are trolling and will end up wishing you never typed out those words on the keyboard from the safety of your own home.

That's exactly what happened when Gavin 'The Rock' Rees came face-to-face with a fella who thought relentlessly bullying him on social media was a good idea.

How wrong was he, eh?

The Welshman, 44, is a former WBA super-lightweight world champion who fought the likes of Adrien Broner and Anthony Crolla in a 43-bout boxing career.

The 5ft 4in champ could really pack a punch, but he retired from the sport 16 years after his professional debut following a swansong victory over Gary Buckland at Cardiff International Arena in 2014.

Rees hung up his gloves, so to speak, and resisted the urge to get back in the ring for a number of years, instead concentrating on training up-and-coming boxers at his gym.

But after becoming a victim of persistent online trolling, Rees decided to deal with the situation the best way he knows how - coming out swinging.

After growing sick and tired of one certain man provoking him with rude jibes on the internet, Rees invited the troll who had been giving him grief down to his gym to fight it out back in 2020.

As you might have guessed, it didn't end well for the bully.

Rees hilariously shared footage of them sparring in a post on X back in March 2020, which showed how the former world champ managed to put the bloke right in his place... and onto the canvas.

To be fair, the mystery troll did get a few shots in - but the Welsh sportsman looked completely unfazed.

Mere seconds later, the tables had really turned.

Rees left the bloke in a heap on the floor after getting a single powerful punch right into the liver, leaving the contender crouched down in the ring in agony.

Lesson taught, lesson learnt, I guess.

Giving some context to the clip, Rees explained in the caption: "Only sparred once in the last 4 years. Been constantly abused on Facebook by some rude. Took less than 30 seconds to shut him up.

"Think before u open tha trap again. This old man ain't out yet."

The footage obviously caused quite a stir on social media and went viral, as people applauded Rees for handling the trolling situation.

The ex-boxer added: "There was 0% chance I'd lose even at my age. I just had to prove a point."

Fans of the star said they 'loved' the footage in the comments.

One laughed: "The old floating rib tickle. Goodnight!"

Another wrote: "Did he realise you were the ex Welterweight World Champ?"

A third said: "Great shot and hats off for the fella even getting in there as the other 99% wouldn't."

A fourth added: "Didn’t know who he was dealing with huh @gavtherock? But I have to give that cat props for showing up to face you!"

While a fifth chimed in: "Beautiful shot! Never understand why people give abuse to people online, let alone boxers lol = bad idea!"
