Harry Kane has spoken out for the first time after England's World Cup exit against Argentina.
The Three Lions suffered late heartbreak as the holders scored twice in the final 10 minutes to set up a final against Spain on Sunday, while England's wait for a World Cup final appearance will extend to 64 years at the very least.
Kane, who scored six goals at the tournament, has now issued a statement after last night's 2-1 defeat.
Taking to X, the captain wrote: "No words are big enough right now to overcome this empty feeling in the stomach. We were close, really close to another final but it wasn’t enough. We’ve given everything over these last 7 weeks and to fall short is hard to take!

"I know the expectations are high and rightly so, we’ve been knocking on the door for eight years now but again are missing that final piece of the jigsaw! That’s where we have to go away, process it and find a way to get better. I’m so proud of the boys and what we have shown throughout this tournament - some tough games and tough environments that we have overcome.
"Some memories that will stay with us players and I’m sure you fans for a long long time! Going for glory doesn’t always mean you will get it. You have to fight for it, get knocked down, pick yourself up and go again and that’s what we will do, there’s no other way but to keep believing and keeping pushing.
"Thank you to every single fan that travelled and showed their support in the stadiums. Thank you to every fan back home for believing in us. Thank you to the boys and staff for everything you have given. As always Win or lose, we learn and go again!"

The Bayern Munich hit six goals en route to the semi-final but struggled to make an impact against Argentina, with Thomas Tuchel in particular facing criticism for the way in which England set up after Anthony Gordon's second-half goal.
However, he could still win the golden boot, but would likely need a hat-trick against France in Saturday's third-place playoff, which most of us probably wish wasn't even happening.
Emotions certainly ran high after the defeat and it's no surprise that Kane and the other players have waited until tonight to post considering the altercations both on and off the pitch after last night's defeat.
Jude Bellingham might well miss the game against France after he slapped Valentin Barco's head after the full-time whistle, while some Argentina players could face a punishment from FIFA after holding up a controversial banner regarding the Falklands.

Kane will perhaps be more heartbroken than most given this will likely be his last World Cup, although the genius of Lionel Messi was still clear to see at the grand old age of 39 last night, so maybe Kane has got a bit more to give for England yet.
Where is the next World Cup?
Morocco, Portugal and Spain will co-host the FIFA World Cup in 2030, marking the football tournament’s 100th anniversary.
It’s set to run from 8 June 2030 to 21 July 2030, making it the longest World Cup in history at 44 days.
FIFA also announced that three separate matches will take place in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, as a tribute to the first-ever World Cup back in 1930.
