Lewis Hamilton is now up against it if he wants to make it onto the grid for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after crashing heavily in final practice.

The British F1 racer lost control of his Ferrari at Turn 9 of the Yas Marina Circuit and spun out of control in a 360-degree pirouette before hitting the barriers.

After damaging the front of his Ferrari, Hamilton reported on the radio: “Something buckled at the front and snapped the rear,” then climbed out.

He later apologised, collecting a broken piece of his front wing and placing it on the battered car before being taken back to the pits on a moped.

The session was paused for 13 minutes while officials cleared the wreckage.

Watch the incident unfold below:

With qualifying scheduled for 18:00 local time (14:00 GMT), Ferrari’s mechanics now have under three hours to rebuild the car.

It caps a difficult debut season for Hamilton, who is poised to finish without a single podium.

The 2025 F1 season will end on December 7 in Abu Dhabi, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen and McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri high in the odds for the world championship win.
