Olympics viewers expose huge lie during Snoop Dogg performance at closing ceremony

LA locals were left scratching their heads about one detail in the Olympics closing ceremony segment

Olympics viewers have exposed a 'huge lie' from the handover segment of the Paris 2024 closing ceremony.

Last night (11 August) saw the Paris Games draw to close, with the eyes of the world turning westward towards Los Angeles as the four year wait until the next Olympics begins.

The US city certainly pulled out all the stops to get fans hyped for the 2028 Games, with Tom Cruise flying down from the roof of the roof of the Stade de France to collect the Olympic flag before undertaking the 5,645 mile journey to LA.

Once the flag made it to the sunny west coast of America, fans were treated to musical performance from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Billie Eilish, before unofficial LA '28 ambassador Snoop Dogg closed the show with a rendition of hip-hop classic 'The Next Episode' alongside Dr Dre.

The city certainly made sure to make a spectacle on one of the megacity's beaches - however there seemed to be some confusion around the exact location.

Sharing a photo from the Red Hot Chill Peppers' performance on X, the French language Olympics account wrote: "The Olympic flag on Venice Beach!"

However there was one small problem with their post, as the performances were taking place in the less famous location of Long Beach.

That's right, it's Long Beach, not Venice Beach.

Eagle-eyed viewers were quick to pick up on the mistake, with one person replying: "It’s Long Beach NOT Venice Beach."

"Did they really call it Venice Beach? That was Long Beach! Anyone in Belmont Shore saw them filming yesterday," a second person added.

The French Olympics account wasn't the only place to make the error either, with one TikTok user sharing a clip of a commentator from a US channel also mistaking the area for Venice beach.

"This is Long Beach," the user said while giggling, as her friend added: "And those palm trees are not real."

The decision to spruce up the Long Beach shoreline for TV viewers didn't go unnoticed by other California residents either.

Sharing their thoughts on social media, several viewers also pointed out that the picture perfect palm trees dotted along the beach looked a little too good to be true.

"This is Rosie’s Dog Beach, where we walk our dogs every day, and it really does look like this except they put in a few extra palm trees because the actual palm trees are taller and further from the water," one viewer explained.

"Did they plant full on palm trees w coconuts at long beach for this. Long beach don't look like this," a second person commented.

"I love all of the closing ceremony, and the LA part was awesome with Tom Cruise and all that," a third viewer added.

"BUT the palm trees on the beach are really annoying, they are so fake. They are very good fakes, LA style, but they’re not real."
