Woman's life is 'about to change' after video shows her 'stealing' from kid at baseball game

Internet users claim a woman's life is 'about to change' after an awkward altercation was caught on camera.

US baseball team Philadelphia Phillies thrashed Miami Marlins 9-3 last night, with Phillies centre fielder Harrison Bader scoring a home run during the game.

As is the tradition in baseball, whenever a player sends a ball into the crowd the person who catches it gets to rightfully keep it.

However, this unwritten rule would become a point of contention during Friday's game, as two people attempted to claim ownership of the ball.

In a viral clip making its way around the internet, Bader's ball is intercepting by a Phillies supporting father who rushes into the empty row to catch the ball for his young son.

But the pair are confronted moments later by a woman who claims the ball was rightfully hers.

In the clip shared online, the unnamed woman appears to fumble the ball while attempting to catch it, causing several people to rush forward and claim the prize from the ground.

She then tries to grab the man as he takes the ball back to his son, and then follows him back to his seat.

The pair then have a heated exchange over the ball, in which the woman can be heard saying: "You took it from me. It was in my hand."

Eventually, seemingly to avoid further confrontation, the father hands over the ball and the woman triumphantly heads back to her seat as several onlookers filmed the exchange.

The moment comes as fan behaviour at sports games is under the microscope, following a 'hat stealing' incident at the US open earlier this week, while a man at a Mets game was filmed ‘ripping a baseball out of an elderly man’s hands’.

Users were left divided over the moment, with one person writing: "This woman has no idea how her life is about to change," suggesting the female fan is about to become famous for all the wrong reasons.

"She sees that he gave it to his boy and she still acts like this? She took the ball from a kid - can’t wait to hear her side." added a second.

Meanwhile, others were more sympathetic towards the woman, with several people pointing out that the ball did technically land closer to her. "I think the dude was in the wrong. He ran clear across the bleachers to grab the ball from her," argued a third commenter, while others called out the person who recorded and shared the moment online.

The clip eventually caught the attention of the Phillies, who made the young boy, who it was later revealed to have been his birthday, didn't go away empty handed.

Taking to X, the team revealed that the Phillies had presented the youngster with a goodie bag and a signed baseball bat from Bader.

"Going home with a signed bat from Bader," the team captioned the exchange.

Looks like a home run for everyone in this situation, kind of.
