Electrician falls into 720 °C aluminium furnace in factory and survives

Electrician falls into 720 °C aluminium furnace in factory and survives

The man fell into a vat of molten metal and somehow managed to escape, though with serious burns

A 25-year-old electrician had a serious brush with death after falling into a 720 °C vat of molten aluminium.

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about this is that the man survived at all – not to mention the fact that he pulled himself out of the metal himself.

He is now being treated – as you might imagine – for some pretty serious burns.

However, whilst he is really badly hurt, he managed to escape with his life.

The man was carrying out his work on the furnace at factory in St Gallen in Switzerland at the time of the incident.

He fell through a trapdoor into the hot metal beneath and became immersed up to his knees in the super-hot aluminium.

Despite the fact that he was in the kind of agony that we can only hope to never experience, he managed to get himself out and the alarm was then raised.

Paramedics and doctors were rushed to the scene, before the air ambulance arrived to rush him off to the hospital.

Now, the police have launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to this appalling incident.

This isn’t the first time that a serious accident has occurred at this same foundry, with an inexplicable explosion in 2014 leaving a man with horrific burns to his face.

With any luck, the man – who fell through a circular hole and into the burning hot metal – will make a full recovery, although he will no doubt be in a serious condition.

Recently, another man had a dramatic escape from molten metal after an accident saw a huge vat full of liquid metal crash to the floor of a factory.

It's not clear exactly what sent the liquid metal splashing across the floor as the man was in the near vicinity of it, but something certainly did.

The incident is believed to have happened in a foundry in Iran, and CCTV footage captured the moment that the metal crashed onto the floor, whilst the man somehow managed to get out of the way of it.

The liquid metal had the appearance of lava as it fell to the floor, consuming the whole of the factory floor in the process.

It was shared in January of this year, and has since gone viral around the world after the fact.

As you can see, it was a serious accident.

It gives us all pause for thought about keeping safe in places such as factories, because we might not be as lucky as this man in future.

However, it’s a reach to call the man who fell into the molten aluminium lucky, despite the fact that he had the good fortune of keeping his life.
