Sweden’s PM has been tweeting wrong Liz Truss, woman replies anyway

Swedish PM, Magdalena Andersson, has had an unfortunate misunderstanding on Twitter

Sweden's prime minister, along with a few others, seemed a little quick to congratulate the wrong Liz Truss on Twitter earlier this week.

It all started when the Swedish PM, Magdalena Andersson, sent out a congratulatory tweet to the newly-appointed Conservative British prime minister, Liz Truss.

The Swedish PM posted: "Congratulations to @liztruss as she assumes the role of Prime Minister of the UK. Sweden and UK will continue our deep and comprehensive cooperation. Important for our citizens, economies and security."

However, in error, Andersson mentioned the wrong Liz Truss by instead tagging the account @LizTruss, ran by a woman named Liz Trussell, instead of the account @trussliz - which is ran by the new conservative leader.

Taking no time to realise the error, Liz Trussell - the Twitter account holder - aptly responded: "Looking forward to a visit soon! Get the meatballs ready!"

While Andersson quickly noticed her mistake and deleted the tweets, Trussell took the opportunity to have some fun with the situation and began responding to a whole avalanche of tweets that were also confusing her with Britain's newest prime minister.

Andersson mentioned the wrong Liz Truss, tagging the account @LizTruss instead of @trussliz.

Upon receiving a tweet from Caroline Lucas, former leader and co-leader of the Green Party, which read: ".@LizTruss

still doesn’t get it - Boris Johnson did *not* get Brexit done, his myriad mistakes over Covid cost countless lives, & he leaves having disgraced his office. Meanwhile, she’s campaigned as a right wing ideologue & will govern as such - which is a disaster for all of us," Trussell came up with a cheeky reply.

While one person responded to Lucas' tweet with, "And I bet she likes cake," Trussell took the opportunity to add to the discourse herself, replying: "I love cake."

Some Twitter users, like Andersson, also took the time to congratulate the wrong Liz Truss on Twitter.

One user wrote: "Many congratulations to @LizTruss well done. Show them all that the best man for the job is a WOMAN."

Trussell simply replied: "Preach sister".

Others found the whole situation absolutely hilarious, with one Twitter user posting: "Liz Trussell who has the @Liztruss

Twitter handle looks like an absolute hun! Can we please have her as PM instead?"

Even after Twitter users realised their error, Liz Trussell expertly carried on the joke.

One person attempting to mention the actual Liz Truss tweeted: "@liztruss if you give us maccies all day breakfast I’ll honestly be okay with you - promise,"

But upon clocking the mistake, they tweeted: "Wait f*ck, this isn’t actually Liz Truss."

To which Trussell replied in a slightly less than prime ministerial fashion: "Don't worry, I got you."

Liz Truss defeated Rishi Sunak in the vote to succeed Boris Johnson as the leader of the Conservative Party and the country yesterday (September 5) and is set to meet with Her Majesty the Queen at Balmoral today - marking her first official day as prime minister of the United Kingdom.
