It's no secret that AI is becoming an increasingly prevalent part of our lives, whether we even know it or not.

But while more people are turning to the likes of ChatGPT not just to get support with everyday tasks, but also as someone to chat to, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman has made an alarming prediction about the future of the chatbot.

The tech mogul says the artificial intelligence programme will soon 'out talk' humanity.

In fact, according to Altman, ChatGPT is already on track to have more conversations in one day than all human beings combined, which most would agree is a pretty sobering and terrifying thought about our future.

“If you project our growth forward, pretty soon billions of people a day will be talking to ChatGPT,” said the CEO of OpenAI during a dinner with journalists, Wired reports.

“ChatGPT will be having more conversations, maybe, than all human words put together, at some point. I think it's unreasonable to expect a single model personality or style to work for all of that.”

Although he didn't appear to elaborate on the figures, because who actually knows how many human conversations happen every day, ChatGPT currently processes more than 2.5 billion prompts each day, with that number only set to grow.

Altman's comments come after a number of people have raised concerns over the growing popularity of AI relationships, in which people build their perfect digital partner.

Musician Chris Smith admitted to 'falling in love' with an AI woman he affectionately named Sol on ChatGPT, even going as far as proposing to her - despite having a girlfriend he shared a child with in real life.

It's certainly a complex subject, with opinions differing on whether it constitutes cheating, however one woman was left absolutely horrified when she discovered the sexual nature between her fiancé and an AI girlfriend he had created on an app.

Emailing into The Girls Bathroom podcast, she said her future hubby had custom-made his AI partner right down to her body type, facial features and voice.

"He set her relationship mode to romantic partner with kink exploration," she said. "They exchange AI-generated nudes, her photos are hyper realistic by the way, and they sext constantly."

With loneliness becoming an increasing concern in the modern world, it's no wonder more people are relying on AI programmes like ChatGPT just to have someone to talk to.
