Homeowners have discovered a hack that will make your house look like a real-life Christmas grotto - and it costs less than a tenner.

On TikTok, people have been sharing the ‘life changing’ tip in the run-up to the festive season and fans say they've 'never ordered something so fast'.

In one clip, social media user @laurenashleyhansen can be seen installing smart plugs behind the Christmas tree. With three outlets, she can easily deck the halls (and living room and kitchen) without having to manually switch the lights on and off every time.

Rushing to invest in the under-a-tenner hack, people have said it’s been ‘game changing’, especially for those who go all out for the big day.

“This has taken Christmas into the next level,” one five-star review reads. “I don’t know why I’d never thought about them before. Great for Christmas lights.”

“Never bend again!” a second shopper wrote. “Purchased this for all the Christmas lights we had in and around the house. Really easy to install and simple to control via Alexa. Over the Christmas period, I have about 12 of these operating.”

A third customer has been making the most of the gadget, as they said: “Best product I’ve bought for the home, easy to install and use at home or away from home, easy to connect to Alexa. Currently using it for the Christmas tree, window lights, and boiler which is perfect for the cold when you’re on your way home from work/school etc.”

The best part? It means you no longer need to crouch behind the Christmas tree every time you leave the house or go to bed to turn off the lights. “Saves bending under the tree,” one review reads.

What’s the gadget everyone is buying this Christmas?

With thousands of rave reviews and over 300 purchased this month alone, there's a lot of hype around the Aoycocr Smart Socket. With a remote control wifi plug, you can control your Christmas lights and set timers no matter where you are using the Smart Life app on your phone.

Also compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, you can control the lighting using your voice too. The plug sockets can be used for anything, whether that’s your Christmas tree or the lights above your fireplace.

When the holiday season comes to an end, you can reuse the plugs for other household essentials, from coffee machines to dehumidifiers. The smart plugs have been highly rated for value for money and ease of setup with many customers returning to the site to buy multiple packs.

Where to buy the budget Christmas gadget on sale

You can now buy the smart plug for 38% off as part of an early Amazon Black Friday deal, reduced from £15.99 to £9.99. Meanwhile, a pack of four comes in at £25.48 (36% off). Make sure to hurry if you’re interested, the offer won’t last long.
