Jenna Ortega will play Wednesday Addams in the spin-off series about the morose teenager.

The actor, who is best known for her role in the creepy Netflix series You and film The Babysitter: Killer Queen, confirmed that she would be starring in the eight-part series.

In a post to her Instagram account, the 18-year-old revealed that she had got the part in the show, which is being directed by Tim Burton.

Sharing a photo of herself with the script, Ortega wrote: "New chapter. Hope I can do Wednesday Addams justice. *snaps twice*."

The exciting news was announced earlier this year that the gloomiest member of the Addams Family was to get a live-action series of her own.

And from a look at the synopsis, it should be class.

"The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams' years as a student at Nevermore Academy," it reads.

"Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago - all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore."

This isn't the first time Burton, who is also producing the series, has been linked to the Addams Family world, though. He was once set to direct an animated movie that never ended up coming to fruition.

However, the tone of some of his previous works- namely Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, Frankenweenie, Dark Shadows, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd, and Beetlejuice - suggest this new project will be perfect for him.

He'll join Andrew Mittman, who was in charge of the 2019 animated film about the quirky Addams Family, while Al Gough and Miles Millar have been tapped to be the showrunners.

They've also called on others who have worked with the Addams Family material in the past, including Kevin Miserocchi (Tee and Charles Addams Foundation), Kayla Alpert (Code Black, Up All Night), Jonathan Glickman (Addams Family 2) and Gail Berman (The Addams Family, Alphas).

As yet, it's not clear when production will start or when we can expect it to land on our screens.

However, one thing that is coming our way very soon is season three of You.

Sera Gamble , producer of the popular psychological thriller, recently took to social media to announce that filming had wrapped up.

But that's not all - in a Twitter thread posted on 23 April, she offered up a tidbit that will no doubt have fans of the show very excited.

"The episodes are f**king bonkers and the performances are insanely good," she wrote. "That's all I'll say about that till we are ready to talk about the new season."

So that's exciting.
