UK Could See Summer Of Heatwaves As Hotter Than Average Weather On The Way

Good news, fellow Brits, it looks as though we’re in for some weather that actually requires shorts this year, a meteorological event that occurs approximately once every millennia.

The Met Office’s new three-month outlook suggests we’re in for a banger of a summer, with the chances of ‘hot weather’ being double those of previous years.

In other words: cue park tinnies, boob sweat, sunburn and of course, plenty of moaning, because t-shirt weather in the manor is looking more and more likely.

The Met’s newly-published outlook states: “There is an increase in the likelihood of warmer-than-average conditions in the month ahead.

“Predictions are consistent in suggesting an increase in the likelihood of temperatures being above average overall.

“While this doesn’t necessarily mean heatwaves will occur, it does increase the likelihood of heatwaves compared to normal.”

According to the Daily Star, James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather, reckons we can expect balmy weather as early as this month.

He said: “There is now the potential for a major spell of warm weather to develop during the latter part of May or early June.”

The outlet also notes that bookies including Coral and Ladbrokes are slashing their odds in anticipation of a blow-out summer.

Coral spokesman John Hill told the paper: “The betting is pointing to a record hot summer this year in the UK. After what has been an unsettled couple of weeks, it is something to look forward to.”

It follows the news that Ol’ Blighty is set to be blessed with a ‘mini heatwave' later this month, with parts of the country enjoying temperatures of up to 20ºC.

The weather will take a spicy turn on Thursday 5 May with ‘above average’ temperatures expected over the weekend.

London and the south east are forecast temperatures of up to 20ºC and will remain dry for nine days. However, those in the north and north west may see some rain while temperatures are set to hit 19ºC in Manchester and Liverpool over the weekend.

The Met Office’s forecast for 5 to 14 May reads: "Winds are generally light, with the chance of some stronger winds in the north. Into the weekend, cloudy conditions with the risk of rain in the north and northwest. Elsewhere mostly dry with sunny spells and a few showers.

"Into the following week generally settled conditions should prevail in the south, whereas in the north, conditions are more changeable. Temperatures are likely to be around or above average throughout, but cooler towards the north and near coasts."
