Man's Romantic Marriage Proposal Goes Horribly Wrong After He Accidentally Set Flat On Fire
A man who planned a romantic proposal, complete with 'hundreds' of tealight candles saw his excitement turn to panic after he accidentally set his flat on fire. At least she'll remember the moment forever, eh?
Thankfully, the firefighters were able to quickly tackle the blaze and no one was injured.
They then started to try and get a picture together about what caused the fire and the occupant of the flat revealed he had filled the room with hundreds of tealights to set the mood ahead of popping the question.
Alongside the candles, the man also filled the room with balloons and got 'a nice bottle of wine'.
Or as South Yorkshire Fire put it: "This was going to be the scene of a romantic proposal and the occupant, a chap who we shall not name, had really gone to town!"
After carefully setting up the romantic scene, he nipped 'around the corner' to go and pick his girlfriend up - but when they returned to the flat, it was on fire thanks to the unattended tealights.

Sharing snaps of the room, you can see balloons and tealight holders strewn throughout while the floors and walls have been severely damaged by the flames.
But it wasn't all bad news for the poor fella - as she said, 'yes'.
If it wasn't for the quick actions of the firefighters this slightly bizarre story could have had a very tragic end.
South Yorkshire Fire have offered a few bits of advice around candle safety.
In a tweet, the fire service wrote: "As romantic as they are, and as much as we all love 'em, candles can be SO dangerous."
The post went on to say that people should ensure they properly extinguish candles when they're done; make sure they're not placed near flammable items, such as curtains; and not to leave hundreds of tealights (or any other candle) unattended. Good advice.
Anyway, congratulations to the happy couple - let's hope the wedding is slightly less dramatic.
