Met Office Warns Weather Could Get Worse Before It Gets Better

Weather forecasters say much of the UK could be in for more snow and cold temperatures this week

So, we told you yesterday to get ready for some pretty awful weather. It's still happening out there, and if you've not had it yet - it's coming, don't you worry.

After issuing a whole heap of weather warnings in the past few days ahead of snow and high winds, the Met Office has now issued even more. This includes an amber 'be prepared' warning for the north-east of England as it looks set for quite a large amount of snow - some reports say up to 20cm could fall on higher ground.

The area is already subject to a yellow 'be aware' warning, so extra care is needed when travelling in areas affected.

The latest warning lasts until Thursday morning, and as well as snow, could see very strong winds batter the north of the UK.

Scotland has already endured its fair share of the weather. More than 50 schools and nurseries have been closed today as a result of the weather, great news for the kids - less so for those who have to take time off work or find someone to look after them.

Met Office spokesperson Alex Deakin said: "Snow showers keep coming throughout the day across western Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England and Wales - a mixture of rain, sleet and snow showers likely here.

"Now it is showers we are talking about, so not everywhere will see the snow, but some places could really see several centimetres across northern Britain, even at low levels. Much more than that over the hills.

"The showers further south could result in some snow over the hills; many eastern areas will only see one or two showers with some sunshine.

"But it's going to feel cold wherever you are, add on the wind and it will feel sub-zero across much of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

"The wintery showers will keep on coming in Scotland and Northern Ireland through Tuesday evening's rush hour, again some pretty treacherous travelling conditions with the snow showers packing in and increasingly turning more wintery towards lower levels over northern England and parts of Wales."

Great, so it's going to be cold, possibly snowing, wet, and windy. Oh, and this will probably have a bad effect on travel, public transport, and even mobile phone signal. Fantastic news. I suppose it is January though, so what were we expecting?

Stay safe out there whatever you do - hot chocolate and Netflix sounds like the best option, as long as you're not relying on your mobile data connection for it.
