The African ‘king’ who was living in a Scottish forest with his ‘tribe’ has a rather different true identity.
King Atehene, Queen Nandi and their ‘handmaiden’ Asnat were evicted by law enforcement officers this morning (2 October), having set up camp on a plot of land owned by the council.
The members of the so-called Kingdom of Kubala had been living in woods near Jedburgh in the Scottish borders for several weeks, having claimed they were staying on land stolen from their ancestors 400 years ago.
Real name Kofi Offeh had moved there with his wife, Jean Gasho, previously claiming ‘all nations belong’ to him and that he is ‘the chosen one’.

They were joined by Asnat, whose real name is Kaura Taylor, while members of her family said she had been ‘groomed’ into doing so from the US.

Deputy leader of Scottish Borders Council, Scott Hamilton, said there was a ‘heavy police presence’ at the site and was currently being cleared.
“There are still a few things at play with regard to the situation, but I think this morning has been a good result for the community and for them as well in terms of the outcome,” he added, as it’s reported Offeh and Taylor were placed in separate vans after being removed.

Before he reinvented himself as the ‘King of Kubala’, the 36-year-old was reportedly a director of entertainment, retail, property and performing arts firms.
A former opera singer from Ghana, Gasho boasted about his supposed fortunes on her blog.
The 43-year-old claimed back in 2021: “My husband within a year has acquired 10 properties to his name. He now runs an empire and, in assets, he is now a millionaire in his own right.
“He gets properties that need renovation and invests thousands into them, making them look gold. Today he is a millionaire king and I can’t help but give thanks.”

However, The Scottish Sun on Sunday found records to reveal that the man’s businesses in the UK typically failed within a few years of being set up.
This included retail and entertainment businesses being struck off while Gasho was making claims that Offeh was showering her with gifts worth tens of thousands.
She wrote in one post that her husband went ‘from nothing to having 13 properties in two years’, claiming he ‘made so much money’.
But businesses he is linked to in public records - including Black British Entertainment, Northern Bridge Ltd and Lookgold Ltd - were all dissolved by compulsory strikeoff within a few years of being incorporated.

After years of struck off businesses, the couple then showed up in the Scottish woods, claiming to be leaders of the Kingdom of Kubula, said to have received income from subscribers on social media.
When asked about his failed firms, Offeh told the Sun: “All these businesses were the road to where we have come. It was a journey of discovery. We have left the world behind.
“The world of luxury is perishing. The world of the wilderness is what awaits everyone.
“It’s more rewarding than cash, gold and silver. This is our destiny.”
