Celebrations makes major change to Advent calendar after being accused of 'ruining Christmas'

Christmas is saved

It's officially December folks, which means one thing - it's time to open the first day of those Advent calendars.

Everyone's got their own different traditions at Christmas time, whether it's sitting down to enjoy classic films like Home Alone, and wondering how on earth they afforded such a nice house with so many kids, or prepping the meal for the big day when everyone tries to avoid getting into a 'food coma'.

We're all counting down the days till 25 December, with our jumpers on and the best tunes (East 17) blasting out of radios and every shop you walk into but for some chocolate aficionados, the whole festive mood was 'ruined' thanks to Celebrations in the last few years.

I personally experienced this, as back in Covid times I'd ordered myself a fancy Lindt calendar only for my online shop delivery (remember those) to swap it for a Celebrations calendar.

This didn't seem like an awful substitution at first, considering the potential for a Maltesers Teasers or Galaxy Caramel each morning, but instead it was nothing but disappointment for the first few days.

There's usually always an open box of chocolates somewhere in every UK household during December and Celebrations are a popular choice, that is until you get to the end of the box and there's nothing but a sea of blue Bounty wrappers staring back at you.

And while it's almost universally agreed that Bountys are bottom of any chocolate tier list, the creators of the Celebrations Advent calendar clearly thought it would be funny to throw a few too many in there.

Although I thought I was just having bad luck when days one, two and three all had a Bounty, it quickly became clear that this was the case for everyone, which left plenty frustrated and upset.

A Celebrations spokesperson previously told LADbible: "Christmas isn’t Christmas without the annual chocolate debate. Whilst we know Bounty isn't everyone's cup of tea, we also know that for some of you these first few days will have gone straight on the nice list!

"Our calendars are all about sharing and surprises, so rest assured more variety is on the way behind the other doors. Watch this space, the nationwide chocolate debate is about to get even more intense..."

But fortunately, it looks as if after several years of torment, the confectionery company has made a change for 2025.

A journalist at The Mirror, who incidentally is a coconut-chocolate fan (they do say that one man's trash is another man's treasure), purchased this year's calendar to see what they could find.

And thankfully for the rest of us, she didn't find a Bounty in the first few days. In fact, spoiler alert, she didn't get one until the 14th day.

Now, personally the 2020 debacle was too much for me and I have a Wallace and Gromit themed one this year, but for those of you with Celebrations, you now have another reason to celebrate Christmas.
