Frankly an iconic move

Politicians and journalists rarely get along but Ed Balls and Richard Arnold proved themselves as the exception live on Good Morning Britain this morning.

Viewers were left a little shocked when after little introduction, the former economic secretary stood up and shared a little smooch with showbiz reporter.

It came after a discussion with the showbiz reporter about last night's Oscars, a conversation which soon turned to Harry Styles' recent appearance on Saturday Night Live.

Styles, who recently released a Netflix show of his gig in Manchester, has long been accused of 'queer-baiting' because of his aesthetics and clothes.

But the 32-year-old, who is reportedly dating Zoë Kravitz, leaned into these allegation by kissing comedian Ben Marshall during his hosting stint on the popular comedy show, before saying: "Now that's queer-baiting."

And Balls and Arnold decided that they would recreate the moment on this morning's episode (16 March) of Good Morning Britain.

Richard said to Ed: "Should we give them what they want? Let's give them what they want!"

They both then met in the middle of the studio to share a little kiss, with fellow host Susanna Reid left shouting 'oh no' in the background after witnessing the surprise spot of romance.

Ed later quipped: "That's what you call Susanna Reid-baiting."

Although most would agree that it was pretty funny, apart from perhaps Ed Balls' wife Yvette Cooper who he has been married to for some time, the views were split on social media.

One wrote: "Oooh Richard & Ed mwah [kiss emoji]," and another said: "That was gross!"

A third joked: "I can feel my porridge coming back up," whilst a fourth said: "Harry Styles kissed a bloke on SNL gosh how daring and funny #gmb."

Meanwhile, Styles had addressed the allegations made against him during a monologue in his recent SNL appearance.

He said: "Back then, people seemed to pay a lot of attention to the clothes I was wearing and some people accused me of something called 'queer-baiting,'" before adding: "But did it ever occur to you that maybe you don't know everything about me, Dad?"

It's not the first time that Ed has caused his co-host some distress during the show, as he also once accidentally kicked her in the head during filming.

While she might need some time to recover from Ed's romantic encounter with Arnold, Reid will probably see the funny side soon enough.
