Fish and a Rice Cake guy has recreated his viral meme 17 years later

We all like to look back on our achievements and reflect on how far we have come. Sometimes we even go out on a limb and pay tribute to them - and Fish and a Rice Cake Guy is no different.

It's hard to believe, but it has been 17 years since Danny Andrews went viral after sharing the details of his unappetising diet that left us all in stitches.

Check out his updated version here:

He became an accidental internet sensation and a meme after his appearance on the 2007 BBC Three documentary Baby Faced Bodybuilders.

At the tender age of 16, Danny was preparing to compete in the Mr Cumbria bodybuilding competition, so he was trying to treat his body like a temple and get in serious shape.

His preparation for the sporting event involved a bizarre diet of - you guessed it, fish and rice cakes.

The then-teenager told the camera: "Eight o'clock in the morning I'll have fish and a rice cake. At 10 o'clock, I'll have fish. "At 12 o'clock, I'll have fish and a rice cake. At two o'clock, I'll have fish. At four o'clock - just before I train - I'll have fish and a rice cake. I'll train, I'll have me fish.

"I'll come home, have some more fish, with a rice cake, and then have some more fish before I go to bed."

So it's pretty easy to understand how he got his notorious online nickname and a questionable legacy regarding his choice of sustenance.

Danny previously told LADbible: "Some people rip me saying I thought fish was brain food, but clearly it's not.

"People ask if I was sponsored by Captain Birdseye. People have made memes and remixes on YouTube, also Scott Mills used to play it weekly, he even spoke to Jake Gyllenhaal about it."

But despite earning fame as Fish and a Rice Cake Guy, the poor bloke doesn't even like fish - he just shoved it down his throat in the hopes of staying healthy in the two weeks before the competition.

Danny looks a lot different now though - as the First Dates star has become an absolute tank. But as soon as he starts reciting his iconic meal plan, it's easy to recognise him and his strong Lancashire accent.

The 32-year-old shared a TikTok video on Saturday (9 December) recreating his legendary meme - armed with a frying pan while standing over the stove in his kitchen, just like in the original clip.

He managed to remember his famous lines word for word, but couldn't stop himself from laughing as he got to the end.

Social media users were buzzing to see an updated version of the viral meme nearly two decades after the initial video, as well as being glad to see Danny reappear on their timelines.

One commented: "We got Fish and a Rice Cake 2 before GTA 6."

Another said: "Love this! I randomly saw the original again last week after years and it still made me laugh. Fair play pal."

A third wrote: "Bro better have Fish and a Rice Cake tattooed somewhere on his body."

A fourth added: "Bruv! Can't believe it you look amazing! This is so funny but look at you now, good work man."

And a fifth chimed in: "We still quote this every time our baby has a rice cake."

Others suggested that Danny might have been onto something with his incredibly bland diet plan, as they could not believe it 'was the same person'.

It seems a few people might be trying the Fish and a Rice Cake challenge in the New Year to shred the timber they've added on over Christmas.
