An inquest into the death of tattoo artist Charlie Edwards has opened by saying he was found dead in his own studio, with a cause of death yet to be confirmed.

According to the Grimsby Telegraph the 26-year-old Edwards was found dead at his studio on Wilton Road, Humberston on 24 March.

After news of his death had been confirmed his ex-girlfriend Emily Atack had posted a tribute to his memory, saying he had been 'funny, so smart, so talented and caring'.

In her tribute she shared a picture from 2021 and wrote: "This is devastating to write. Charlie you were my friend. You were always there for me. You dropped everything so many times to come and be with me.

"We talked for hours on end on the phone about absolutely everything. We helped each other. You were funny, so smart, so talented and caring. I can only hope and pray that you have found some peace.

"My heart breaks for your family who will forever be so proud of you. Beautiful boy, beautiful soul. I'm so so sorry. Rest in peace Charlie."

At Grimsby Town Hall, Assistant Coroner for Greater Lincolnshire, Jane Eatock said a post-mortem on Charlie had been carried out in Hull but the reason he died was 'yet to be determined', with the inquest adjourned until September.

His funeral will be held on 1 May, and his family said they'd welcome floral tributes or donations being made to Andy's Man Club or The Fisherman's Mission through their websites.

In life he'd run a business with his brother Jack called Ravens Retreat while he also campaigned against the stigma of having tattoos.

Charlie had previously told the Grimsby Telegraph he thought people getting art on their bodies was a good way to express themselves, and that some people who wanted them were 'wary that having a tattoo might affect them getting jobs'.

He'd said his approach to giving people tattoos was to make sure they got something they wouldn't come to regret, telling the paper: "I never do walk-ins or people that you see having drunken holiday tattoos and possibly regret it later."

Charlie counted Post Malone among the fans of his tattoo work, and his social media account had amassed over 200,000 followers who admired his body art.

On there he had shown his artwork with intricate designs such as detailed faces, beloved pets and complex patterns inked into the skin of his customers.
