Investigation launched after burned body of woman is found near football pitch

Police in Scotland have launched an investigation after a burnt body was found near a football pitch.

The charred remains, believed to be a woman, were found by a member of the public earlier this morning (Saturday 24 February) in Motherwell, Lanarkshire.

The body was found this morning.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9am on Saturday, 24 February, 2024 a body was discovered in the Margaret Drive area of Motherwell.

“Officers are at the scene.

"The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.”

Crews from the Scottish Fire and Rescue service were also spotted in attendance, according to the Daily Record.

An eyewitness told The Sun that they had seen a fire truck arrive at the scene, with firefighters pouring buckets of water onto the body.
