Here is a breakdown of events following the horrifying 11-bike crash at a UK motorsports event.
Yesterday (5 May) the 2025 Quattro Group British Supersport Championship was underway at Oulton Park in Cheshire when one rider reportedly lost control of their bike and skidded into another contestant.
The accident then led to a 'chain reaction' event which saw 11 riders involved in a mass collision, caught on live TV. Two of the men tragically lost their lives, while a third rider is reported to be receiving treatment for 'significant injuries'.
The remainder of the the remainder of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship event was later cancelled as tributes for the two riders have since flooded in across the internet.
What caused the 11-bike crash at Oulton Park on 5 May?
Medical teams seen during the aftermath of the crash (TNT Sports) Monday's event was meant to be the third race of the Bank Holiday weekend for the British Supersport Championship, which ended in tragedy after the lap one horror crash.
The catastrophic accident is understood to have occurred after one rider lost control of their bike while exiting the first turn on the course and skidded into another rider which led to the deadly collision involving the 11 men.
According to statements from Motor Sport Vision Racing and British Superbikes, the collision occurred at the 'Old Hall corner' on the first lap and led to a 'chain reaction incident involving 11 riders falling'.
The statement added that the race was 'immediately stopped' as medical services attended the scene.
How many riders were injured in the collision?
The incident took place during the event's third race at Oulton Park (TNT Sports) British Superbikes later confirmed the two men killed in the collision were Owen Jenner and Shane Richardson.
21-year-old Jenner, who was a rider for the Rapid Honda team, died from a 'catastrophic head injury' after being receiving medical treatment trackside and at the circuit medical centre.
New Zealand national Richardson, 29, had sustained 'severe chest injuries' and was transferred to Royal Stoke University Hospital.
However, the Astro-JJR Hippo Suzuki rider passed away prior to his arrival.
BSB added that a third rider, 47-year-old Tom Tunstall, was also taken to hospital with 'significant back and abdominal injuries' while a further five riders received medical attention for minor injuries.
The identities of these riders were confirmed as Carl Harris, Max Morgan, Cameron Hall, Freddie Barnes, Morgan McLaren-Wood. Three further riders involved in the accident - Lewis Jones, Corey Tinker and George Edwards - were uninjured.
British Superbikes later confirmed the remainder of the event would not be taking place due to the severity of the accident.
"It will not be possible to continue the event and therefore the remainder of the race event is cancelled." their statement concluded.
Cheshire police investigating crash
Owen Jenner, 21, was one of the men killed in the accident (British Superbikes) It has also been confirmed that both MSV racing and the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board are investigating the crash alongside the Coroner and Cheshire Constabulary.
"Police are investigating two deaths on behalf of the coroner following a multiple collision at Oulton Park this afternoon," a statement from Cheshire Police read.
"Emergency services were called to the scene following the collision which resulted in two riders being fatally injured and another with serious injuries."
Tributes to the two men are currently doing the rounds online, with Rapid Honda sharing the following statement on Instagram: "The team are shocked and devastated that Owen sadly lost his life as a result of this. All our focus and support right now goes to Emma, Mick, Sam, Tony and family.
29-year-old Shane Richardson was the second driver to die in the accident (British Superbikes) "Our thoughts and prayers are also with Shane Richardson and his family at this difficult time. We are also thinking of Tom Tunstall and his family whilst he continues to receive medical care."
Meanwhile, Whites Powersports, a sponsor of Richardson, also shared their condolences on social media.
"Shane will be remembered by many as a great racer, person, and father," the statement read. "Our thoughts go out to Shane's young family and friends during this tough time."
Richardson is survived by his partner and their two young children.
