New details emerge as prison officer accused of sleeping with inmate 'in prayer room'

Messages have revealed more about their relationship

New details have emerged about the alleged relationship between a prison officer and an inmate after she was accused of sleeping with him in a prayer room.

Isabelle Dale's court case is ongoing after the 23-year-old was reported to have begun a sexual relationship with HMP Coldingley inmate Shahid Sharif, during her time working at the Category C men's prison.

Prosecutors have been discussing the text messages that were sent between the two, with suspicions first arising after they were spotted going into a prayer room together, before Dale re-emerged and adjusted her belt.

Opening Dale’s trial, prosecutor Kieran Brand said: “On July 19 2022, Miss Dale and Mr Sharif were seen to enter the multi-faith room located off a wing within the prison, together.

“They remained there for four minutes while two inmates appeared to act as lookouts. They both emerged from the room together and walked back towards the wing, with Miss Dale appearing to readjust her belt area on the right-hand side of her hip.

“The multi-faith room is not covered by CCTV: the prosecution say it is clear they went in there for some form of sexual activity.”

Now, some more potentially damning evidence has emerged in the case, as the court heard of the audio recordings that were shared between the two, with 33-year-old Sharif even rapping down the phone to the prison officer.

He sang: "Post-traumatic stress disorder, another security thinks I'm out of order."

That seemingly won her over, as she replied: "I like that one baby...I'm so proud of you. My favourite one (rap) you've ever done...is the first one you ever sent me."

After searching Dale's home, officers also discovered an engagement ring that had seemingly been bought by Sharif, while a framed canvas of the couple was also hanging over her bed.

Dale is also accused of bringing prohibited items into the prison, including a phone for Sharif, who has also already admitted that he conspired with Dale and 27-year-old Lilea Sallis to bring drugs into the prison.

The prosecutor continued: “Their intimate relationship led to Miss Dale agreeing with him to smuggle contraband, including the illegal drug ‘spice’ into the prison.

"The spice was to be supplied by the second defendant, Lilea Sallis, who was an associate of Mr Sharif."

Further phone calls were also played to the jury, including a conversation about hot chocolate, while Sharif also opened up about his experience of moving around prisons, as he is just three years into a 12-year sentence after being found guilty of robbing a jeweller's shop and stealing items worth around £620,000.

Despite Sharif admitting to the relationship, with officers also finding photos of the young woman in his cell, the prison officer is continuing to deny the three charges that have been brought against her.

The trial continues.
