School students across the UK will be wrapping up their end-of-year exams right now but the weather may well prevent them from going in.

A red weather warning has been issued for some parts of England, with temperatures potentially set to exceed the record of 40.3 degrees which was measured back in 2022.

Anyone who has lived in the UK knows that once it gets past 25 degrees, thinks start to get a little uncomfortable but for the next four days, most of the country will be dealing with temperatures well into the 30s.

Naturally, this can cause a lot of issues in the work and travel sector, with offices potentially closing for the day in favour of working in the garden with a beer, while taking any form of public transport will feel like you're stepping into a sauna.

But while school kids are perhaps more used to having snow days that stop them from getting in, sun days might well be the new big thing, when it simply becomes too hot to think or learn.

Thanks to the covid pandemic, most schools are now set up to provide online learning, so it's not all good news for any kids who were planning on spending the day playing outside.

The National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) has written to all its members with advice on how to deal with the heat and in some circumstances, the best option might be to simply close.

Paul Whiteman, NAHT general secretary, said: “While there is no legal ‘upper limit’ for temperature in schools, (school leaders) will certainly be doing all they can to mitigate the effects of such high temperatures.”

One reason why schools might close when your office might not is because children are deemed to be more at risk of becoming ill from a heat-related illness, especially if you're at a posh school where you're usually donning a shirt and tie.
