The very-real possibility of a Universal Studios theme park opening in the UK has got us extremely hyped.

Earlier today (19 December), Universal Destinations and Experiences made the shock announcement that it's 'exploring' the idea of building a theme park and resort on a former brickworks site in Bedfordshire.

The US-based organisation purchased 480 acres of land at Stewartby and has called it an 'attractive place for a potential project'.

"The UK has a large population, creative industries, strong tourism, and transportation infrastructure with close proximity to other parts of Europe," it said.

"We support Bedford's vision of becoming a prosperous place to live, work and visit."

A spokeswoman for the company behind Universal Studios added: "We recently acquired land in Bedford and are at the early stages of exploring its feasibility for a potential park and resort at this site.

"It will be many months before we are ready to make a decision to proceed and we look forward to engaging with all relevant stakeholders and the local community."

Tom Wootton, the elected mayor of Bedford Borough Council, said: "The suggestion of a major business investment is of course positive, nevertheless these are early days and much detailed work is required before any decisions are made.

"We very much welcome and are excited by the interest from Universal and the immense potential for it to be transformative for the borough.

"We're committed to ensure that any plans align with the best interests of our residents."

To say that people are excited by the announcement is an understatement. However, with a cost-of-living crisis looming large, most 'luxury purchases' will most likely need to be factored into some sort of budget.

Currently, the beloved theme park has sites in the US, China, Singapore and Japan.

But to give us an idea on how much it could cost to visit a UK Universal, it's worth taking a look at next year's prices for one of its flagship sites in Orlando.

For one adult, your ticket will cost:

  • 1 park, 1 day: $109-159 (£86-125)
  • 2 parks, 1 day: $164-214 (£129-168)
  • 2 parks, 2 days: $111-176 per day (£87-138)

For one child, your ticket will cost:

  • 1 park, 1 day: $104-154 (£82-121)
  • 2 parks, 1 day: $159-209 (£125-164)
  • 2 parks, 2 days: $110-171 per day (£86-134)

A family of 4, your tickets will cost:

  • 1 park, 1 day: $518-626 (£407-492)
  • 2 parks, 1 day: $738-846 (£580-665)
  • 2 parks, 2 days: $1,099-1,383 (£864-1,087)

We'll have to wait and see which of our favourite rides may possibly get the cut.
