Brits have reacted to the recently announced (unwelcome) change to Wetherspoons’ menus.

In case you missed it, the beloved UK pub-chain has increased the prices of its drinks.

In an official statement, a Wetherspoons spokesperson said: "Most prices in Wetherspoon pubs have increased by 3.95% from Thursday, 1 February, 2024.

"Some prices have increased by less. Ruddles Bitter has increased by 1%. Bud Light lager, Stowford Press Cider and Doom Bar bitter have increased by 2%. Draught Pepsi has not increased.

"The average increase, across all bar and food products is 3%.”

While Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin added: “Wetherspoon, like most pub companies, has seen some big increases in costs. We believe that our prices remain competitive, even after these changes."

That may be so, but a price increase is never going to be celebrated by the British public, is it? And it hasn’t taken long for news of the change to make its way to the punters.

Spoons customers in London should prepare for the average cost of a pint of lager edging ever closer to the £7 mark, with a pint of Corona now setting you back £6.98 in the Moon in the Water in Leicester Square, where a pint of Stella Artois is slightly less, at £6.88, up 20p from the previous price.

And a pint of Leffe Blonde is now £7.30, while a Mad Squirrel Big Sea West Coast IPA costs £7.09.

Sharing a snap of the new menu on X, one Wetherspoon customer said: “Just looked at Wetherspoons prices in Central London. Wowzers. Seven quid for a pint of Corona.”

Someone else posted: “The days of a Pint for £3 are GONE.

Brits have responded to the news.

"Wetherspoons increases cost of pints to £7. Spoons have huge buying power and run at small margins, so just imagine how much it costs independent venues to buy beer.”

A third said: “Prices gone up again at Wetherspoons today. £13 now for a curry and pint in Liverpool - yet pay rises are a joke.”

Another person said: “We went to Spoons the other night and none of us could quite believe the prices.”

Here are some examples from just a couple of Wetherspoons pubs in London:

Moon Under the Water (London)

Stella Artois - £6.88 (increased from £6.68)
