Confusion as dogs now banned from XL bully protest against ban

Dogs banned from the XL bully protest in Birmingham this weekend as owners furious

When you’re going to a protest against something being banned, you probably aren’t expecting that same thing to be banned from the protest.

So you can imagine the confusion surrounding the U-turn that has been made by the organisers of the upcoming protest against the XL Bully ban, which has now banned the dogs from attending.

The dog breed has been in the centre of quite the controversial debate recently after numerous attacks prompted the UK government to draw plans to have it placed on the banned dogs list.

These attacks included a Staffordshire man being mauled and killed by two XL bullies, as well as an 11-year-old girl being attacked by one in Birmingham.

In response and protest of the ban, a group of owners planned a huge XL Bully walk in Birmingham for this Saturday (30 September).

Jake Harris, the person behind the 0121bullys Instagram account, told Birmingham live the event was created because of the ‘need to show people that the XL Bullys are not the problem’.

The flyer urged attendees to ‘bring as many people and kids as possible’, as well saying: “All dogs welcome more the better!”

Aiming to show ‘how gentle’ the breed actually is, protestors were going to take their ‘friendly dogs’ on a ‘friendly walk’.

However, a recent post from 0121bullys has updated this to say: “NO DOGS ALLOWED!!”

They added: “Got too much press and too much riding on this now we need to make t shirts banners jumpers anything to show off our loving giants.”

Obviously, this has caused a fair bit of chaos as users struggle to understand this new rule for the protest, seeing as it has been organised to demonstrate how 'gentle' XL bullys are.

One commented: “This is surely a wind up?”

Another even popped in an angry-face emoji as they furiously wrote: “I was going 2 take day off 2 come up to this with my little angel. I can’t bring him now?” The 0121bullys account replied for the owner to ‘dm me’.

Others kicked off over the controversy, adding: “Why change it to no dogs allowed? I thought these dogs were calm and great family dogs?”

The account responded with their reasoning: “Because we might have a news crew turning up and I don’t want them to take pictures of the dogs because they have the power to change the whole story!

XL bullys will soon be banned in the UK.

“It could be probably one of the best things we can do at this moment in time to try and get the government to listen to us bully owners and that’s what we need!”

And one quipped: “People will still bring their dogs, good luck.”

This morning (26 September), the poster also added in the comments: “U lot are the reason we’re in this situation no of u have any common sense do uno we’re dogs come from go do some research we’re all walking with wolves.

In support, another wrote: “Looks like you’re going to be a very busy man, well done. Keep up the good work.”
