The New Fivers Aren't Vegan-Friendly And Vegans Are Fuming

2016 is weird.

Remember when the new plastic fivers came out and the whole of the UK lost their shit for a bit? Some people were selling them for £1000s online, while others were thinking up the weirdest ways to destroy them and others were using them as ice-scrapers. Anyway, pretty quickly we all got familiar with the fact that fivers feel a bit different now and carried on with our lives.

However, the bluey notes are back in the news, because The Bank of England has just confirmed that the new notes aren't vegan-friendly and it's all kicking off.

Tallow is made from animal fat, and is used in things like soap and candles, as well as money, apparently.

The shock revelation has got vegans and vegetarians absolutely fuming:

Someone has even set up a petition, which already has more than 4,500 signatures, and it states: "The new £5 notes contain animal fat in the form of tallow. This is unacceptable to millions of vegans & vegetarians in the U.K. We demand that you cease to use animal products in the production of currency that we have to use."

And of course, Twitter was also flooded with a load of people making the exact same joke:

So, what do you reckon? Should we get rid of animal-content of these notes?
