Moment survivor is pulled from car wreckage after devastating Amazon plane crash killed five

Emergency responders miraculously found a survivor trapped in the wreckage of their car after the deadly Amazon cargo plane crash.

Dramatic footage captured the moment that police officers noticed signs of life from one of the several vehicles that were struck by the Boeing 767 jet.

At least five people died on Sunday (6 September) when the aircraft barrelled off a runway at Miami International Airport before careering into a number of cars.

Three people were critically injured and another two were taken to hospital with less severe injuries, officials said.

Jennifer Homendy, the chief executive officer of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), announced on Monday that those who lost their life were inside the cars that the cargo plane hit.

It collided with two vehicles - a cleaning van containing seven people and a Toyota Corolla that had three passengers.

Describing the scene as 'devastating', Homendy said: "It's hard to see, and I'm sure very difficult for the first responders as well."

The NTSB chief said recovering victims bodies is the immediate priority, adding: "The investigation and access to the aircraft, as well as evidence, can wait."

The identities of the victims have not yet been released by authorities.

According to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Prime Air plane overran the runway at around 2pm after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the crash, arriving to find the aircraft on fire as crews worked to extinguish the flames and assess patients.

Incredibly, emergency responders managed to locate a survivor while scanning car wreckages in the vicinity.

Video shows a police officer peering inside a decimated vehicle which appeared to have flipped on its side in wake of the plane crash.

A cop is then heard yelling: "Rescue! We’ve got one breathing! He's alive!"

More officials then rush over to the wreckage as they began to assess how to free the survivor, as another individual then shouted: "'We got one for you! He's alive!"

The condition of the person found inside currently remains unclear.

The pilot and co-pilot of the Prime Air plane were also injured during the incident, however, their current condition is not known.

Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said in a previous social media post: "We’re working closely with local authorities and officials to understand exactly what happened.

"Right now, our absolute priority is the safety, wellbeing and care of everyone involved."

Amazon said in a statement that it would co-operate with any investigation.

"We’re heartbroken to learn that five people lost their lives in today’s incident at Miami International Airport," the company said.

"Our deepest sympathies go out to the families, loved ones, and all those affected by this devastating loss."

In wake of the tragedy at Miami International Airport, there have been renewed calls for increased safety measures during take-off and landing, including the implementation of the Engineered Materials Arresting System (EMAS).
