Donald Trump's interesting response when questioned over promise to send all Americans $2,000 cheque

Donald Trump was a bit stumped when a reporter asked him about promising to send everyone in the US, apart from 'high income people', a $2,000 cheque.

The US president has been going on about how much revenue his tariffs have been bringing in - upwards of $600 billion.

In a Truth Social post from November, he insisted that people who 'are against tariffs are fools'.

"We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price," he wrote.

"401k’s are Highest EVER. We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion.

"Record Investment in the USA, plants and factories going up all over the place."

He then promised to send 'a dividend of at least $2,000' to each person, 'not including high income people'.

It's a claim he has made a number of times, but when asked by a reporter on Air Force One recently, he said he wasn't aware.

The New York Times' Katie Rogers said: “You’ve promised $2,000 cheques to Americans based off of your tariff revenues?”

Trump replied: “I did do that? When did I do that?”

On when Americans will receive their dividends, he responded: “Well I am going to - the tariff money is so substantial that’s coming in that I’ll be able to do $2,000, sometime, I would say, before the end of the year.”

People were not buying it over on X, as one person commented: "Yeah, well he already 'forgot' that he said we would receive a $2,000 tariff check so I wouldn't hold my breath."

A second user wrote: "What ever happened to Trump's $2,000 Tariff Checks for Americans? Another PsyOp? We'll never see them."

While a third added: "You were never getting $2,000 tariff rebate checks, the same way you were never getting $5000 DOGE refund checks.

"But Trump doubled his family’s net worth. Congratulations, you got conned."

"And here we go again - he makes a big promise, his idiot followers believe him, then he denies or conveniently ‘forgets’ he made that promise," a fourth said.

"Imagine how stupid you’d have to be to keep falling for this over and over again," someone else wrote.

Forbes reported in September that Trump’s net worth went up to $7.3 billion from $3.9 billion in 2024.
