Donald Trump has given three reasons he wants Elon Musk to stay on in his government position, while also hinting that DOGE has found something 'horrible'.

The 78-year-old's return to the Oval Office certainly hasn't been without controversy, and hiring his pal Musk seems almost trivial compared to his clampdown on immigration, explosive chats with President Zelenskyy and the recent trade tariffs that he has imposed on the rest of the world.

After playing a large part in Trump's re-ascension to power by literally dishing out millions of dollars to back him, the president repaid the billionaire Space X founder by appointing him as 'a special government employee' heading up the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) programme.

Now, it seems as if he has impressed Trump enough for him to consider appointing him in another position, as he is currently expected to leave his role on May 30 when his special government employee (SGE) status expires.

“I want Elon to stay as long as possible,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, before rattling off three reasons why he likes having the billionaire around the White House.

“Number one: I like him. Number two: He’s doing a great job. Number three: He is a patriot,” the president said. Clearly it doesn't take much to earn a position of power in the US.

Trump added: “We’re in no rush, but there will be a point in time in which Elon’s going to have to leave."

However, he did suggest that he would consider appointing him in a new position in order to keep Musk around for longer, saying 'I would. I think Elon’s great'.

The Tesla boss was asked previously by Fox News whether he was going to continue on beyond his 130 day limit or not.

"I think we will have accomplished most of the work required to reduce the deficit by a trillion dollars within that time frame," he said.

The 45th and 47th president also alluded to something that DOGE had found recently, using it as another excuse to toot Musk's horn.

He said: “[DOGE] found something today that’s horrible. It’s horrible — you’ll find out very soon. What they found is incredible, and we give [Musk] a lot of credit. He’s got some very smart people.”

However, he refused to provide any more details about the nature of DOGE's discovery.
