A woman has explained how her hometown reacted when they found out that her parents were brother and sister.

Cameron Keller said that in her New Mexico hometown, it was somewhat 'normalised' for people to be having a relationship with a family member, as she explained it was a place where 'a lot of weird things happen'. For instance, her mum was working in a diner when her long-lost brother just happened to walk in.

Taking to TikTok to talk about it, the artist said that only 'when we started getting the internet, they learned that it's wrong' for family members to be in a relationship together and went into some detail on how people in town reacted towards her family.

Keller said that 'people would throw rocks at me a lot' and that her house 'got egged a lot'.

"Sometimes we would scrape up the eggs and use them and cook them if we got it early enough," she told her followers.

The woman explained that 'for a really long time' her parents didn't know they were related and had started dating before they found out.

However, after finding out that they were brother and sister, Keller's parents continued their relationship.

"They started dating before they even knew they were related," Cameron said. "Then they did... they were also super religious, so they always quoted Adam and Eve when we talked about anything reproduction.

"My brother and I would ask a lot of questions about how we got here, because we didn't have a stereotypical family dynamic. We would go to other people's houses and it would be different, you know?

"[Our parents] would say, 'We should abide by the Bible and follow in Adam and Eve's footsteps.'"

Keller's grandmother, her parents' mother, died when they were both young, so the siblings were split up, with one living with an aunt and the other living with her grandfather.

They were 'separated for a long time' and didn't know about each other when they started dating as teenagers, and Keller said they were still together to this day.

The woman said that her parents were actually 'kind of proud of it' and that the incestuous relationship was 'so normalised in my neighbourhood'.

She even used to 'tell everyone' in school about her family situation, as when she was younger, she thought her parents being 'blood siblings' was cool.

Eventually, when she was in the fifth grade, a teacher took her aside and told her, 'I don't think you should be telling people this'.
