Influencer jailed after killing millionaire uncle by ramming into him with jeep

A TikToker has been jailed for 10 years after pleading guilty to manslaughter, after killing his uncle with a car.

Jordan Aronson had been living with his uncle, philanthropist and non-profit founder Scott Grebler, at his home in Florida in June 2023 when the pair got into an argument, which was captured on a nearby video.

Aronson was a popular content creator who shared workout and baseball tips online, boasting of 75,000 followers across both TikTok and Instagram combined.

During the argument, Aronson got into his Jeep and reversed out of the driveway of Grebler's home before throwing the car into drive and ploughing into the 59-year-old's body into a nearby palm tree.

Grebler was then found by a bystander who'd witnessed the incident and taken to hospital, where he died eight days later from his injuries.

Aronson claimed his uncle had become violent on the day of the crash

During the court hearing, Aronson's legal team claimed that Grebler had become violent towards his nephew on the morning of the crash, with Tampa Bay Times reporting that he threw rocks at the Jeep after accusing him of stealing money.

Aronson's legal team claimed that he'd tried to keep his cool during the altercation until he 'snapped'.

Surveillance footage captured around the 13 Ugly Men founder's home shows Grebler chucking a ceramic mug onto the driveway before placing the shattered pieces underneath the vehicle's wheels.

Aronson, a university student who'd just finished his freshman year, had been living with his uncle for two weeks when the argument occurred.

It's understood that Grebler had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease as well as mental health issues.

Surveillance footage also captured the verbal altercation between the pair before Aronson got into his Jeep and backed out of the driveway, prompting Grebler to throw a binder and papers at the windshield.

It was here that Aronson shifted the car into drive and crushed his uncle against a palm tree.

After leaving the scene, Aronson contacted police and claimed that he'd driven the Jeep into Grebler after he tried to attack him.

Plea deal accepted by defendant

Aronson was later arrested and charged with second-degree murder, initially pleading not guilty.

However, a report from Court TV revealed that he later changed his plea after reaching an agreement with the prosecution.

The agreement saw the second-degree murder charge dropped to manslaughter with a weapon.

A spokesperson for Hillsborough State Attorney’s Office has since revealed that Aronson's family had not wanted him to face criminal charges over the incident.

"While the wishes of a victim’s family are important to us, it is also our responsibility to make charging decisions based on the law and the evidence," spokesperson Erin Maloney said in a statement.

"The defendant should still be held accountable for his actions."

Aronson received a 10-year prison sentence followed by five years on probation, rather than facing the maximum of 30 years, which came with the previous murder charge.

He will also be expected to complete 50 hours of community service alongside an anger management course.
