People can't get over insane charge in Las Vegas hotel room that left guest feeling 'punished'

Viva las additional hotel room charges

A Las Vegas guest has shared an 'overly punishing' charge in their hotel room, and people reckon it's 'insane' that visitors would have to pay for it.

The desert oasis is built on a steady stream of suckers coming in from miles around to gamble their money away at the casinos, but in recent years, that stream has become unsteady.

According to Fox News, visitors to the city in July are down 12 percent from what they were last year, and Las Vegas mayor Shelley Berkley recently begged Canadians to 'please come', Fortune reports.

International visitor numbers are down 13 percent, while hotel occupancy rates are down 15 percent compared to last year, so things appear to be moving in the wrong direction for the city of sin.

It might not be that surprising after a guest shared a picture of the minifridge in their Vegas hotel room, which told them it was 'sensory activated' and guests would be hit with a $50 extra charge if they stored their own items in there or altered any of the contents.

Needless to say, it's not gone down well with people, who said it was 'f**king insane' and 'destroying everything' in Vegas, while someone else said it was going to 'p**s off customers'.

While the official figures show fewer people are heading for Vegas, plenty of folks reckon they know why that is, as they said a trip to the city was now full of extra fees and costs, which made it all more expensive.

People called it a 'rip off' and there were 'no more low cost' experiences in Vegas and things were going downhill as they'd slipped from 'a somewhat affordable good time' into 'a rip off at every corner'.

Several others said if you told the hotel you needed somewhere to keep insulin cool, they'd have to provide something for free, getting around the minibar's charge for storing personal items.

This is by no means the only Las Vegas guest who's complained about all the additional charges. Last year, someone else was banging this exact same drum on how they didn't even want to touch the minibar items for fear of being charged.

Over on TripAdvisor, someone else was absolutely fuming as they claimed they'd been 'scammed' by hotel staff moving items around in the 'sensory activated' minibar.

Since you're charged if things are moved around in there, they claimed they took pictures of the contents and said things had been moved around when they weren't looking to add extra charges onto their bill.

It sounds like taking pictures is the solution to this, as several people told the frustrated tourists to take a picture of the minibar contents once they got to the room, and one when they left so they could get any unwanted extra fees knocked off their bill.

Mayor Berkley lamented that the Vegas where you could enjoy plenty of pleasures on the cheap and save your money for the gambling tables 'no longer exists' as she hit out at venues 'nickel and diming people'.

She painted a picture of a city that offered guests cheap buffets and cocktails while they enjoyed the casinos, and of a world consigned to history as visitors were now paying through the nose everywhere they turned.
