Former Love Has Won cult member speaks out about shocking mummified corpse incident

Former Love Has Won cult member speaks out about shocking mummified corpse incident

The cult was led by Amy Carlson until she died in 2021

A former member of the Love Has Won cult has spoken out after the mummified body of its leader was found in a Colorado home.

Love Has Won is an American new religious group, which was led by Amy Carlson until her death in 2021.

Carlson was referred to within the group as 'Mother God' and was proclaimed to be a divine, 19 billion year-old being who had birthed all creation. She also claimed to have been reincarnated 534 times.

Before her death, between 12 and 20 full-time members lived with the leader in Crestone, Colorado.

Unsurprisingly, the group has been often been described by both the media and its ex-members as a cult.

But, things get far weirder.

In September 2020, it had been stated that Carlson was in poor health. Months later, on 27 April, 2021, her mummified corpse was found adorned with fairy lights and glitter in a Colorado home.

Seven of the cult's core members were arrested after they were found living in the house alongside the corpse.

They were given various charges including abuse of a corpse and child abuse, but none were charged in relation to Carlson's death.

An autopsy report released later that year stated that she had died from 'global decline in the setting of alcohol abuse, anorexia, and chronic colloidal silver ingestion'.

Now, a former high-profile member of the cult has spoken out about the shocking incident.

Andrew Profaci, had joined Love Has Won following a horrific car crash in 2014, and had been part of Carlson's inner circle for 10 months.

He told CBS4 in Colorado that he was unsurprised by her passing.

"Shocking, really. I was not surprised at her passing," he said. "She was not in very good health and getting worse."

When Profaci joined the group, he was quickly ushered into a leadership position.

"When I joined the team I thought I was just going to be a guy in the background. She told me I was going to be the Father God to her Mother God," he explained.

Profaci also said Carlson was a heavy drinker. He told Vice News that she was 'one of the most brilliant, insightful people' he'd ever met, but that 'it all changed after dinner'.

"She could drink like I've never seen before," he said.

The HBO Max documentary Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God tells the story of Carlson and the cult. British viewers can watch the documentary on NOW.
