A woman who claims to have struck up a relationship with Mackenzie Shirilla behind bars has spoken out about what happened when they broke up.

Shyann Topping says that she met the 21-year-old killer just two weeks before her two-year stint at the Ohio Reformatory for Women was coming to an end.

The 27-year-old, who had been serving time for drug offences, has now shed some light on what Shirilla was apparently like in prison, while opening up about the 'craziness' that ensued after they split.

Shirilla will remain incarcerated for at least another 15 years, if not life, following the deaths of Dominic Russo, 20, and Davion Flanagan, 19, in a deadly July 2022 car crash.

Women who were locked up alongside her in the Ohio Reformatory for Women have been speaking out about their experiences with her in the wake of the release of the damning documentary, The Crash.

'Two weeks in prison feels like two months'

One former inmate claimed Shirilla was on 'sugar daddy websites' and noted how different she was in real life in comparison to the alleged persona she adopted while appearing in the Netflix show.

Now, Shirilla's ex-partner has dished the dirt on their short-lived romance and how it ended on a sour note.

Topping - who claims her jailhouse lover proudly informed her that fellow inmates had nicknamed her 'Shirilla The Killa' - explained that they first met while using the outdoor track at the Ohio prison.

She recalled waltzing over to Shirilla and informing her that she 'looked good', before things quickly snowballed from there.

The pair are alleged to have got together shortly after this initial encounter, with Topping explaining that 'two weeks in prison feels like two months'.

"All you're doing is seeing the same people every single day, 24 hours a day," the former convict told People. "When it started off we were good. We were just walking the track, she was smiling."

'I honestly believed maybe she's not guilty'

The intensity of their relationship continued to grow rapidly and by around the third day, Topping claims that Shirilla was already keen to let other inmates know that they were an item.

According to Topping, the killer motorist told her: "Why aren't you touching me? I want you to be all over me. I want you to be out here for everyone in the yard to see me."

She was released just a fortnight after their first meeting, but says she left the Ohio Reformatory for Women under the guise that she and Shirilla could have a future together.

"When I was in [prison], I honestly believed maybe she's not guilty because of the limited information I had," Topping said, explaining she intended to 'fight for Shirilla's release' and 'possibly be an advocate' for her.

"I was like, 'Oh, they don't know what this girl's been through'," she went on.

"And then I started going through everything and seeing the evidence and I started thinking about her and I realised, 'Oh my God, maybe she's not a good person'."

After coming to this conclusion, Topping took to TikTok and shared a series of videos about the time she spent with Shirilla in prison. This is when the pair called time on their relationship.

In the wake of the split and sharing some social media posts about it, Topping claims that she began to receive 'crazy' messages with terrifying threats.

"After I found out [the details] of her case and we stopped talking to each other and it fizzled out, people started texting me and saying crazy stuff to me," she alleged.

According to Topping, some of the messages simply listed her home address or her mother's name. She told People that she suspects 'inmates who were locked up with Shirilla at the time' might have been responsible.

She ended up drastically dialling back her online presence in wake of this and only returned to TikTok after the Netflix documentary The Crash was released on the streaming platform in May.

Topping also previously told The US Sun how the 'pretty and bubbly' Shirilla spoke about her desire to become an influencer, travel and 'write a book when she gets out about everything that happened'.

'Evil'

Topping also revealed that her former prison girlfriend told her she loved her after two weeks of dating, while admitting there were some fraught tensions between them during their short romance.

She told the publication: "If we did argue, it’s because I didn’t come outside on time or didn’t come outside for that yard.

"And she’d be like, ‘I was waiting for you. Where were you? Like, if this is how it’s gonna go, I just won’t talk to you'."

Since watching The Crash and conducting her own research into Shirilla's crimes, Topping said she believes the Ohio prisoner's actions were 'sick' and 'evil'.
