Minnesota governor Tim Walz has confirmed that a second person has been killed by a federal agent in Minneapolis, weeks after Renee Good was fatally shot.

In a post on social media, Governor Walz wrote: "I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening.

"The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now."

Initial reports indicate the fatality was a 37-year-old white male, a US citizen and lawful gun owner, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara.

It is understood he was shot by a member of the US Customs and Border Protection.

"How many more residents, how many more Americans need to die or get badly hurt for this operation to end," Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, said in response to the killing, adding that ICE ongoing operations were 'not creating safety in our city'.

US Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin has also commented on the killing to the BBC, saying the shooting occurred during a 'targeted operation' in the city on an 'illegal alien wanted for violent assault'.

She continued that during the operation, 'an individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun'.

"The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted," she said.

"Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene."

The shooting comes at a tense time for the Minnesota capital, which previously saw 37-year-old mother-of-three Renee Good shot and killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross, sparking civil unrest in the city.

Good had been driving through a district of Minneapolis with her wife on 7 January when she came into contact with Ross.

Understood to have been acting as a monitor to an ongoing ICE operation, Good was filmed conversing with Ross before attempting to drive away.

Ross, seemingly clipped by Good's car at a slow speed, then proceeded to shoot her three times.

The incident was later claimed to be an act of self-defence by the Trump administration, which labelled Good as a 'domestic terrorist' – a claim which has since been rejected by Mayor Frey.
