One man well and truly hit the jackpot after a cashier made what would go on to be one of the most welcomed mistakes of his life.

The man, who hails from Maryland, US, ended up cashing in over a whopping £450k after the rookie cashier gave him the wrong lotto ticket.

The avid lottery enthusiast, who has not yet been identified, was well known as a regular at the petrol station where he purchased the same lottery ticket every single time.

The Maryland man raked in nearly half a million after being sold the wrong lottery ticket.

His visits to the shop were so frequent that veteran employees ended up knowing him and his order to a T.

However, this was clearly not the case for the new cashier after they handed the man a ticket for 'Multi-Match' instead of his usual 'Cash4Life' due to a typing error.

At the time, the clerk attempted to cancel and replace the wrongly-served lottery ticket but was unable to.

Recalling the fortunate mix-up, the winner told KENS5: "I gave him the money and said, 'I want to buy five Cash4Life tickets'.

"The attendant made a mistake and gave me a Multi-Match ticket instead."

The baller continued: "I was like, 'Oh, a new guy'. He was so apologetic."

Well, time would soon show that the cashier had absolutely nothing to apologise for after the man decided to check his ticket on the way to work on the Lottery mobile app.

The results definitely added a bit of spice to his morning commute after the bloke discovered that his 'Multi-Match' ticket was worth a massive $580,000 (£470k).

The man has revealed exactly what he plans to do with his earnings.

In total shock at what he saw, the lucky winner rushed to verify the validity of the winnings.

"On the way home from work that night, I stopped by the retailer and scanned it. I took a picture of the message to prove it was true," he said.

His wife has since marvelled over the bizarre but nonetheless welcomed news.

"If anyone deserves this, it is him," she said. "He is a hard-working man, a good husband and a good father."

So - the question you're all wondering - what's he going to do with the fortune worth nearly half a million quid?

Well, the virtuous winner revealed he will use the funds to pay off the educational loans owed by his children as well as settling any debts and, with the left-over funds, he hopes to one day establish an elderly patient care home.

Wholesome indeed.
