Mystery man who died from cyanide in church may link to Tylenol murders
A man walked into a church in Idaho in 1982 and never walked back out.
He was found dead from cyanide, carrying a false name, leaving investigators with no idea who he really was.
More than four decades later, his identity has finally been uncovered... along with a possible connection to a Tylenol poisoning case that occurred that same year.
The man, who became known as the 'Unknown Wanderer', was discovered in the pews of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boise on 4 December 1982.

With him, he had 19 $100 bills, along with the suicide note signed 'William Toomey'.
Investigators would later establish that William Toomey wasn't his real name, and with no DNA match to help identify him, the man's true identity remained a mystery for decades.
The case even went on to feature on an episode of the television series Unsolved Mysteries in 1990, but his name continued to elude investigators.
Now, a new break in the case has finally helped investigators narrow down the mystery man's identity.
In an announcement this Wednesday (23 September), the Ada County Sheriff's Office in Boise, Idaho shared that they have identified the mystery man as Dr Matthew Francis Betkouski, an organic chemist who had worked in the aerospace and fragrance industries, with a history of discussing cyanide and poison.
And that background has now raised questions about whether he could have been linked to one of America's most infamous unsolved poisoning cases.
In September 1982, just a few months before the 'Unknown Wanderer' was found dead, seven people in the Chicago area died after taking Tylenol capsules that had been contaminated with cyanide. The case remains unsolved.
Investigators have stressed that they couldn't place Betjouski in Chicago in September 1982, and they are not naming him as a suspect.
However, according to the Ada County Sheriff's Office, investigators found a hand-drawn map of Chicago among Betkouski's belongings, as well as photographs of him in the area.
The photos were initially believed to have been taken in 1982, although investigators now believe they date back to December 1981, meaning they don't place him in the city at the time of the poisonings, per CBS News.
Investigators also found a bottle containing sodium cyanide among his belongings.
According to Fox News, former colleagues of Betkouski recalled him discussing cyanide and poison, including allegedly talking about how poison could be used to commit a 'perfect crime'.
Taken together, those details have prompted investigators to look more closely at whether there could be a connection to the Tylenol case, although there are still some fairly hefty gaps.
For one, the cyanide found among Betkouski's belongings was sodium cyanide, while investigators say potassium cyanide was used in the 1982 Tylenol case.
And despite the Chicago map and photographs, there is currently no evidence placing Betkouski in the city during the final week of September 1982, when the poisonings took place.
That being said, the possible connection has been taken seriously enough for the evidence to be reviewed by Dr Park Dietz, a forensic psychiatrist who was involved in the original Tylenol investigation.
Speaking to Fox News, Dietz said the evidence could provide 'very likely closure' and that groups of forensic psychiatrists and criminal profilers who reviewed the case anonymously considered Betkouski to be a viable suspect.
So while investigators have finally been able to put a name to the 'Unknown Wanderer' more than 40 years after his death, the biggest question surrounding his story remains unanswered.
