Patrick Clancy's lawyer breaks silence on conspiracy theories with warning to those spreading 'falsehoods'

Patrick Clancy's lawyer says 'enough is enough' with conspiracy theorists spreading 'falsehoods' about his client.

Lindsay Clancy's ex-husband was the first witness to testify in the trial which ended on Friday.

The mum-of-three admitted to killing her children in their Massachusetts home in January 2023, but pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

Conspiracy theorists who have been wrongly suggested he was involved in the deaths have been hit with a statement from Patrick’s attorney Howard Cooper.

“Over the past months, Patrick Clancy and his family have been subjected to a relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign,” Cooper said.

“This campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers and outright conspiracy theorists who appear intent on boosting their own social media profiles and potential profit by publishing what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children and other vile claims.

“This campaign, now fueled by insatiable media coverage, remains at a fever pitch and has resulted in real life threats to his reputation, livelihood, and life.”

Cooper explained that his client ‘has no choice but to address this situation - with the clear goal of stopping injurious behavior, creating accountability for lies that are self-serving to the perpetrators, and being able to return his attention to what matters: preserving the memory of Cora, Dawson and Callan Clancy and supporting other women facing perinatal mental health challenges’.

“Enough is enough -- this spread of blatant and baseless falsehoods must stop,” he added.

“Those responsible should understand that there will be consequences, and every appropriate measure will be pursued to hold them accountable, including legally. Law enforcement has been notified.”

On Friday, the judge declared a mistrial after jurors said they could not reach a unanimous verdict on whether Clancy was criminally responsible for killing her three young children.

The decision, made after seven days of deliberations, means prosecutors can retry Clancy.

Clancy, a former labour and delivery nurse, admitted killing five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson and eight-month-old Callan at their Massachusetts home in January 2023. Prosecutors argued she deliberately strangled the children with exercise bands after arranging for her husband to leave the house.

Her defence argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and therefore should not be held criminally responsible. Jurors heard extensive evidence about Clancy’s deteriorating mental health following Callan’s birth, including severe anxiety, insomnia and psychiatric treatment. She had admitted herself to a psychiatric hospital shortly before the killings.

The 12-person jury spent more than 38 hours deliberating, with the final split being 11 to one after a single juror refused to agree to a unanimous verdict.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington fiercely blamed the single holdout juror for the deadlock.
