Chilling resurfaced 9/11 footage shows ‘moment the US changed forever’ leaving people completely ‘stunned’

The remastered footage reveals exactly how scary the first impact was when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower

People have been reacting to remastered footage of 9/11 that has been shared online, with one American saying the terrorist attack 'shattered our feeling of invincibility'.

It's been almost 24 years since the biggest terrorist attack in human history which shook not just the US, but the world, to its core.

On 11 September 2001, four passenger planes were hijacked by al-Qaeda and flown into the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Virginia, and a field in Pennsylvania.

The former marked the destruction of two of the most recognisable skyscrapers in the Big Apple's skyline, while the third location was a failed attempt to hit either the White House or the US Capitol building after passengers bravely fought back against the hijackers.

As it took place in the early stages of the digital age, videos have continued to emerge in the years since the disaster, showing different perspectives of those around the city on that day.

2,977 lives were lost in the attack, while an estimated 6,000 to 25,000 people were left injured in the aftermath.

But almost a quarter of a century on, viewers are still stopped in their tracks when footage of 9/11 does the rounds on social media.

This week, it wasn't new footage, but a video that has been enhanced and remastered by AI to appear clearer at 60fps.

The harrowing video, which was shared on Reddit, reminded users of how pivotal that one event would become in the following years.

In the clip, Flight 11 can be seen plummeting into the first tower, with plumes of smoke billowing out of the skyscraper.

Those around him look up as they hear the plane passing by, thinking nothing of it, only to be shocked by its impact into one of the twin towers, with a delayed impact sound ringing around New York.

In the comments, one user said: "That's pretty much the moment the US changed trajectory forever.

"I can't even explain to my kids how different things were before that day vs after. They've only known the after."

Another added: "There was a naivety lost that day that's hard to explain. Besides Pearl Harbour, US soil had been relatively safe since our civil war."

A different user wrote: "I didn’t expect to get rocked this morning. I’m stunned. I’m right back to my college classroom on the morning of 9/11/01, looking up CNN to see what happened."

"This is as far as I know the only footage of the first plane impacting. It was two French brothers following fire fighters for a documentary and they happened to be in the street as it happened," a fourth pointed out.
