Woman who fell into sinkhole in her back garden feared she'd be 'buried alive'

A woman who plunged into a sinkhole as her dog watched on in terror has spoken out about the shocking ordeal.

Danielle Tammone, 47, from Long Island, US, fell eight feet in the garden of her Bohemia home and was heard on home camera footage shrieking for help.

She said she began to slowly make sense of her surroundings while in a state of shock and feared she'd be buried alive.

Speaking to 1010 WINS, she explained: “It happened so quick. My feet just sunk a little bit, but it was like seconds. I didn’t even have time.

“And then I was just 'hoop' down the hole. Just in the ground. Okay… what just happened? Like, where am I? Alright I’m in the ground. You’re in a hole, wow."

Describing how she descended into panic, she explained: “And then the panic starts, because you’re like wow I could die today. This could not end well. I could be buried alive.”

Danielle began desperately screaming for help and her neighbours, who she had never met before, quickly rushed to her rescue and called the emergency services.

Footage shared online showed the moment Danielle can be heard after falling down the overflow cesspool repeatedly screaming for help.

It goes on to show the heroic neighbours rushing over to help before paramedics were called out to the scene.

“Oh my God, she fell into the ground,” one neighbour yelled out, adding, “we are on the phone with 911.”

“You’re going to be fine, Danielle. They are on their way,” another was heard in the clip reassuring her.

Neighbour Christine Chanowsky told CBS: “At first, we thought she was in the shed or something. We were not looking on the ground.

“Firemen, cops, ambulance, special unit, EMTs — they were wonderful.

“I was tearing up. I was crying. As soon as she got out of the hole, just gave her the biggest hug."
