A woman was left with brain damage after things went very, very, wrong on her wedding day.
Describing it as a ‘freak accident’, Star Torres ended up going from being on the dance floor on her big day to laying on a bed in ICU in hospital.
The Texas bride had spent much of 17 April celebrating her wedding with Jacob, after they’d worked away at planning it for over a year. But after tying the knot, sharing their first dance, and cutting the cake, their honeymoon was instead spent in the trauma wing.

Star and Jacob met at Texas Tech where he was a football coach, and she was a student.
“She kind of just caught my eye and the rest is history from there,” the groom told NBCDFW.

The pair’s wedding came after two years of romance, with the celebrations beginning as they’d always imagined.
“The venue was breathtaking,” Star said. “It was beautiful. We’re really trying to focus on all of the good moments throughout that day before everything else happened.”

And once all those mini milestones of the day were complete, the dance floor had opened up. Jacob was doing the rounds of the guests while the bride had a moment celebrating with her mates.
But then tragedy struck as Star fell and smashed her head on the ground on what was meant to be the happiest day of her life.
“It was really a freak accident. I just took a bad fall … dumb, just not paying attention,” she explained. “I fell headfirst onto the concrete floor and cracked my skull.”
She then spent four days being monitored by doctors for a fractured skull and brain bleed as her husband never left her side.
On Facebook, Star wrote that her wedding day fall had left her with a brain haemorrhage and a traumatic brain injury.

“For those wondering, my recovery has been really hard. Until yesterday, I haven't been able to do anything on my own, including walking, going to the bathroom, showering etc. and the symptoms have been ruthless,” she added.
The newlywed said she ‘would not be recovering as well’ if it wasn’t for Jacob.
Luckily, Star’s fractured stopped just short of her spine – something the couple is celebrating. And on top of that, doctors reckon she’ll make a full recovery once her concussion symptoms clear up.
“We’ve had a traumatic experience on what was supposed to be a perfect, beautiful day, and it’s just a constant reminder that life happens no matter what, no matter the situation, and what you make of it is everything,” Jacob added to the outlet.

Their family have set up a GoFundMe to support the couple’s recovery, currently raising over $5,000 (£3,755).
