Sobering simulation shows true reality of smoking weed for one month as Trump considers law change

The commander-in-chief is currently weighing up whether to reclassify cannabis

Given that Donald Trump is considering a reshuffle of the rules around weed in the States, there's never been a better time to see this simulation of what smoking the stuff is like.

The US president is currently mulling over the idea of reducing the federal classification of marijuana and deeming it a less dangerous drug.

Currently, the drug is classed as a Schedule I drug alongside heavy hitters such as heroin, LSD and ecstasy.

According to the US Drugs Enforcement Administration (DEA), this category of substances currently have 'no accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse'.

However, weed could soon be downgraded to a Schedule III drug under the prospective change, which are seen as having 'a moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence'.

During a press conference on Monday (11 August), Trump acknowledged that cannabis is a lot like Marmite, saying: "Some people like it, some people hate it."

"I've heard great things having to do with medical, and I've had bad things having to do with just about everything else," the commander-in-chief said. "But medical, and, you know, for pain and various things."

He said a decision on the matter would hopefully be reached 'over the next few weeks', adding: "And that determination hopefully will be the right one. It's very complicated subject."

Currently, only six states out of the 50 in America have not legalised the drug for either medical or recreational use - but this reclassification wouldn't make it legal all across the country.

However, it would definitely get the ball rolling for serious change in the US, especially in terms of the legal system.

According to the Wiberg Law Office, the higher the drug's schedule, the harsher the potential sentence - so if the reclassification goes ahead, weed smokers wouldn't face as harsh a punishment as they can do now.

Still, this sobering simulation might put you right off the idea of puffing on a joint altogether.

Content creator Chris Notap shared a video on YouTube of an amateur experiment he conducted where he sought to show the impact smoking three spliffs a day for 30 days has on a person's lungs.

Rather than volunteering himself as a guinea pig, he used a bell jar to represent our breathing apparatus, which he then filled with white cotton wool balls.

It was also rigged out with an 'exhale tube' for the smoke to dissipate from, as well as a hole in the front where he could position a joint.

So, over the next 30 days, he fed his creation a grand total of 90 spliffs...and the signs of damage became more and more evident after each one.

The fluffy white clouds of cotton wool which Chris had inserted into the jar at the beginning of the video had dramatically yellowed, while the exhale tube - which Chris said was included to represented a person's throat - was completely clogged with black tar, and the glass chamber itself didn't look much better.

Although Chris emphasised that it was 'not a scientific experiment', it certainly gave people some food for thought about their smoking habits.

"The bottom line is, this is what's going on in your body and what you have to deal with," Chris added. "Kids, if someone offers you a cigarette, a vape pen or a joint, just say no thank you.

"Remember this one simple rule - there's only one thing that's meant to go into your lungs, and that's air."

Chris' comments sparked a lot of debate in the comment section - largely from a ton of stoners who couldn't believe he'd 'wasted' so much weed.

One person joked: "Watching 90 joints burn unevenly is hurting more than knowing my lungs look like this."

Another said: "Look at all that bad stuff going into your body."

A third added: "Previous smoker here, trust me the moment you start quitting is the moment you wish you didn't have your first cigarette."

While a fourth pointed out: "This is an inaccurate representation because no smoker holds smoke in their lungs that long."

Either way, it's certainly an interesting visual.
