Footage of a building near where right-wing speaker Charlie Kirk was shot dead shows an 'individual on the roof', and another video appears to show someone 'running over the roof' of the building just after the deadly shot was fired.

Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative speaker in the US who co-founded the Turning Point USA group, was speaking at Utah Valley University yesterday (10 September) as part of his 'The American Comeback Tour'.

The university later confirmed that a 'single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker' shortly after midday, with the bullet striking Kirk in the neck and fatally wounding him.

While the university's senior director Scott Trotter initially said he didn't know what condition the 31-year-old was in it was later confirmed that he had been shot dead.

The investigation arrested two people, who were later released after the authorities were satisfied each had 'no current ties' to the shooting.

Witnesses described a 'shocking scene' as many of them ducked for cover following the solitary shot, with footage showing members in the crowd shouting at each other to run.

Footage of the area appears to show a person on the roof of Utah Valley University's Losee Center building which would place them less than 200 yards away from Kirk's speaking position, well within the effective range of a rifle.

Posted online by OSINTtechnical, the footage shows what looks like a person lying on the roof, and other footage from just after the shooting appears to show a figure on the Losee Center roof 'running away' following the gunshot.

BBC Verify examined the footage in the first video but said the image quality was too poor to clearly make out what the figure on the roof was, and it cannot verify when it was filmed, OSINTtechnical claims the footage was taken 'in the moments before Charlie Kirk was shot'.

Investigators with the FBI and the Utah Department of Public Safety said the attacker had been 'dressed in dark clothing' and they believe the shot 'came from a roof'.

They said: "The shooting is believed to be a targeted attack.

"The shooter is believed to have fired from the roof of a building down to the location of the public event in the student courtyard.

"Any additional clarifications cannot be provided to protect the integrity of our investigation."

The university campus will now be closed until 15 September following the shooting.
