Mum and daughter, 2, killed by lightning with husband witnessing entire thing
A mum and her daughter have been killed by lightning strike in Florida.
Kenya Glasgow and her two-year-old girl Kennedi were tragically found lying on the sidewalk in Margate at around 2:30pm on Sunday (23 August).
Upon arrival, first responders performed CPR on them before they were transferred to separate hospitals where they were pronounced dead shortly after.
Kameron Glasgow, Kenya’s husband, witnessed the entire thing and called her his ‘best friend’ in an emotional Facebook post.
“I’m hurt we are hurt but if you gotten the chance to feel that beautiful light my wife and daughter brought into your life cherish it,” he wrote.
“It’s there for a reason. It gives us all the blueprint to just love others and always remember it doesn’t take much to be kind.
“Kenya Kennedi I love you both so much. I thank you both for choosing me as your husband and father.
“Don’t worry about Kensli and I. I know you both have us covered for the REST of our lives. We will make you both our story and take it one day at time because I know you both are guiding us.”
“S**t can’t be real,” he wrote in another post, adding that it was a ‘1 in 1.2 million’ incident.
According to the National Lightning Safety Council, Kenya and Kennedi are the 11th and 12th victims of lightning strike in the US this year.
“I saw the whole thing,” Kameron told the New York Post.
“A bolt of lightning came down, I got hit with the residuals from the ground and I looked over and that’s when I saw them.”
He said his ‘wife had the biggest heart in the world and only cared about everybody else and never cared about herself’.
“She put everybody before herself. Everybody showed up for everyone. Without hesitation,” he added.
Prince Moody, a nearby resident, said to WPLG that he heard the ‘loudest lightning strike I could hear, thunder, and an orange glow went through my window’.
“Imagine the family that’s actually going through this. The father, you know. I have a kid and I can imagine. My thoughts and prayers,” he added.
A GoFundMe set up on behalf of Kameron says each donation will be ‘an investment in Kensli's care, stability, and future’.
“Kensli is only two years old. While she may not yet fully understand the magnitude of what has happened, the loss of her mother and twin sister will forever be a part of her story,” the fundraiser reads.
“In the days, months, and years ahead, Kameron's focus will be on helping his daughter grow, heal, and continue to experience the love and support that have always surrounded her.
“This GoFundMe has been created to help ease some of the financial responsibilities Kameron will face as he adjusts to life as Kensli's sole parent. Contributions will help support Kensli's everyday needs, childcare, clothing, food, education, and other expenses associated with providing her with a safe and stable future.
“Our hope is simply to give Kameron the space to grieve, be present for his daughter, and navigate this heartbreaking new reality without having to carry every financial burden alone.
“No contribution is too small, and we understand that not everyone is in a position to give. Sharing this fundraiser, keeping Kameron and Kensli in your thoughts and prayers, and surrounding this family with love are equally appreciated.”
