The moment a fight broke out on a school fundraiser's golf day was captured on camera. Watch below:

What was supposed to be a friendly game of golf - to raise money for Laerskool Vryheidsmonument school - descended into chaos when one golfer accused another of stealing his mobile phone.

Inevitably, angry scenes followed.

At this point in the clip, a shirtless man starts waving a flagpole as a weapon at the other.

The incident took place at Maccauvlei Golf Club in Vereeniging on Friday afternoon.

The club's general manager, Deon Kruger, said that everything kicked off when an innocent golfer heard a phone ring and noticed one lying in the rough of the 17th hole.

Speaking to South African publication Times Live, Kruger explained: "The golfers were playing 18 holes. A player on the 18th hole had lost his phone and when he called it a golfer on the 17th hole answered it.

"There was a heated exchange of words and a rumpus when the players approached each other. This whole thing comes down too much alcohol and the players, who until then had been well behaved, drinking on the course.

"We do not condone nor allow drinking on the course but some players, like these, had snuck alcohol on to the course and were drinking while playing. The drinking resulted in this very unfortunate incident."

He said that those involved weren't members of the club, adding: "We held an emergency meeting about what happened on Monday. Because it was a golf day we have no control over who plays. This was organised by the school.

"None of those who were involved in the altercation are our members."

Kruger said that after the players left, the club wrote to the school to express its disapproval at the brawl.

He added: "Never in the 15 years that I have been here have I seen anything so barbaric taking place on the golf course. Our club definitely does not condone such behaviour."

Times Live reports that the golf day had been planned to raise funds for the school.

Surita Pita was named as the contact for the school on an event flyer. She said that those involved weren't parents of any of the children who attend the school.

Pita said: "We do not know what happened, but it is terrible. It is embarrassing.

"We have no idea who they are."
