Shocking Moment Boxer Walks Out Of The Ring After Start Bell Rings

In the famous words of Michael Buffer, 'let's get ready to rumble' - but only for a second in this boxing match

Imagine splashing out on tickets for a boxing match, only for the whole thing to be over within minutes. Ok, if you saw a KO in the first round, you might not be too bothered - at least there's some form of entertainment there. But how would you feel if it lasted only a second?

Enter Curtis Harper, who might well have set a record for the shortest bout in boxing history. The 30-year-old American walked into the ring like any boxer would, preparing to fight against the up-and-coming prospect Efe Ajagba.

The boxers did their usual with the referee as the rules were laid out for the fight and then headed to their respective corners - but then the story took a really bizarre, unexpected twist.

As you can see in the clip, one second after the bell is rung, Harper steps through the ropes and makes his way back up the ramp.

Yes, the fight literally lasted ONE second. Of course, most people would have sympathy for the man if it was an important reason, but considering Harper walked out over how much he was paid, there may not be too many who will back his corner.

Could you image if Floyd Mayweather, a man who loves money as much as boxing, decided to walk out of his fight with Conor McGregor if he wasn't paid enough? Not only would there be a riot, but he'd pretty much leave his entire legacy in tatters.

Oh, and you better believe that Harper has received his fair share of criticism. According to the BBC, trainer Nate Campbell said he was 'embarrassed' by how the American handled himself.

"This man disrespected himself, his wife, the fans and me," he said.

Ouch.

It does seem that money was the main reason for his actions. Journalist Jordan Hardy, who works for Premier Boxing Champions, confirmed that on social media.

"He walked out of the ring because he's not getting paid enough to fight and that he wants respect," she said.

Understandably, fans booed him out of the area. Ajagba was subsequently declared the winner by disqualification, leaving Harper's career statistics standing at six defeats and 13 wins.

Ajagba's probably more annoyed than anyone else, to be fair. He probably spent plenty of time working towards a KO like all of his previous bouts. If there's anything in it for him, at least he has six wins to his name and probably his easiest victory to date.
