Woman shares men’s reactions to her deadlifting huge weight at gym

Footage of two men's reactions to a woman deadlifting at the gym has left people in stitches.

Sydney Cassidy - a fashion graduate turned regular gym-goer, whose aim is to 'empower [...] women to get fit and lift' - uploaded a video of herself at the gym on Friday, 2 September.

Rather than the video demonstrating the 'perfect foot placement' for certain lifts or giving a tour around the Gymshark lifting club, the video focuses on two men in the background as Sydney challenges herself to deadlifting a seriously impressive weight.

The gawping jaws, wide-eyed expressions and comments from the two men behind the athlete have left TikTokers howling with laughter.

Not only did Sydney split her belt open while deadlifting 'twice [her own] bodyweight', but the fitness influencer also caused the two men behind her to sit up and count the weights on the bar in utter disbelief.

Once having realised just how much Sydney was able to lift, the man on the right can be heard saying: "What the f**k. That's just an obscene weight."

One of the men sat behind Sydney had to check with her how much she lifted because he was in such disbelief.

His friend quickly tries to count up the load on the bar too and when Sydney finally confirms the weight - 140kg (309lbs) - the final comment uttered by the bewildered man is: "What is it with all of these beast women? That's f***ing sick, just f***ing units."

The video has since gone viral on social media, amassing over seven million views on TikTok and hundreds of comments.

One said: "Boys who say 'oh my days' are so cute haha it's so polite."

"We love a respectfully impressed king," another wrote.

However, one user thought it was potentially demeaning that the men didn't think Sydney had it in her to lift such a ginormous weight. "They really think we aren’t capable," they said.

The two men's reactions were met with mostly positive responses from other TikTok users who noted how 'respectful' the pair were of Sydney.

Although, most followers reacted positively to the men's responses to Sydney's deadlift, with a final writing: "YES WE LOVE POSITIVE AND UPLIFTING GYM BROS."

The praise for the men's reactions contrasts greatly with the less than ideal encounters other women have experienced at the gym.

TikTok has previously been used by women to call out unwanted and 'creepy' attention, such as when personal trainer Heidi Aragon caught a man persistently staring at her, filmed him and eventually confronted him.
