A woman has ended up in surgery after refusing to fart in front of her boyfriend. Watch the viral clip below:

Many of us know what it's like in the early stages of a relationship when you don't want to 'embarrass' yourself too much.

For some it's keeping makeup on at the right times, while for others it's wearing jeans instead of sweat pants.

However, one woman was unfortunately hospitalised after holding in her farts around her boyfriend.

TikToker @cazakid69 posted the viral vid on Wednesday (30 March) and has already racked up two million views.

In the text overlay, she alluded to the idea that she's very 'comfortable' in her relationship with her boyfriend.

It read: "Me and my boyfriend doing everything together and comfortable."

She then showed a picture of herself in hospital alongside the caption: "Me having my appendix removed because I hold in my farts around him."

Viewers were pretty stunned by the video, with some women fearful the same could happen to them.

One wrote: "omg I’ve been holding mine in from Dean for years," to which the TikToker replied: "Get farting."

Another woman exclaimed: "NEW FEAR UNLOCKED!"

A third said: "My stomach problems have gotten 10x worse since having a bf for this reason alone."

Other viewers wished her a speedy recovery, "Omg I’m so sorry this happened hope you're okay."

And if you're wondering, TikTok medic Dr Karan Raj has explained the grim reason why we should never hold in a fart.

Dr Raj (@dr.karanr) says that, on average, people fart 14 times a day, and 'if someone tells you they don't [fart], they are lying'.

He adds that not letting a fart out can have gross consequences: "If you hold in a fart too long it can be reabsorbed into your bloodstream and breathed out when you exhale."

That certainly doesn't sound too good – better out that in, as they say.
